Something different. Experimenting with some buildings and the new #Speedpaints from #ArmyPainter. So far I am pleased — slightly different experience, it takes a bit of an adjustment from my regular technique.

Which raised some interesting issues for the wargamer. The place is flat, but in a flat place, every minimal feature in the terrain makes a difference, be it a boulder, a tiny depression, a ‘ridge’ no higher than a few feet.

And this is the view southward. There are some recent structure farther down the shallow ‘valley’ in this direction, but you get the point: the place is FLAT.

My game this past weekend brought back memories from my 2022 trip to El Alamein. It has been interesting to reflect on the desert as it is in our tabletop games, and the desert as it is. Here’s the view from Ruweisat Ridge, looking northward.
