Retired and living in France, after 40 years in software across UK and 5 other countries, I became an estate agent in France from 2016-23.
QPR fan through thin and thinner.
There's a reason why they are EX Tory MPs.

Out of the mouths of babes, sucklings, and blond apologists for a complete liar.

Was it, though? Cameron said his Govt would implement the wishes of the British people. They voted Leave, so UK left.

It wasn't populist politicians, it was the UK electorate. At least 37% of them. As they regret it now, it's too late.

The UK will eventually wake up and realise that it needs immigrants to work, pay taxes and support those in need. But, I won't hold my breath.

My initial point was more about the more recent drop than the rapid increase in the Boris wave.
November 30, 2025 at 3:18 PM
2 key points, IMHO. The substantial drop in Immigration surely stems back to end of the Tory Govt, rather than Labour harshness. The slow, steady rise of Brits emigrating.

Other than the ending of the 2 child cap, it's been a bit of a damp squib. Sure, freezing personal allowance for longer will hit. But how many will really notice when it kicks in?

Report more entertaining than the match. Again.

Many Brits buying a chateau think it will be a money spinner. Reality is it will be a money pit. And I used to work for Leggett.
November 27, 2025 at 9:49 PM
UK has always treated Europe by being semi-detached. Is it island mentality? Strange when so many Brits emigrate to EU27.
November 25, 2025 at 10:32 AM
Is that serious? FOM comes with many obligations, not just financial, that are intrinsic to EU.
November 23, 2025 at 5:36 PM
I was v careful to use the word influential. Davey, however you might wish otherwise, is not influential.
November 23, 2025 at 5:31 PM
Fair enough. But do you really see anybody influential prepared to advocate for such a change. Frankly I don't.
November 22, 2025 at 8:07 PM
It's easy to blame Brexit. Rejoin is not, currently, a realistic option. So where is the solution.
November 22, 2025 at 7:50 PM
No issues Phil. UK takes a tiny proportion of refugees. But you wouldn't know that from media.
My only quibble was what constitutes a deterrent.
November 19, 2025 at 1:55 PM
It's the story of many immigrants. However they get here. Thank you for sharing.
November 18, 2025 at 9:21 PM
I see the figures but, I would argue, that other factors were just as/more relevant. E.g. they stopped lorries. War in E Africa. UKG turning a blind eye.
November 18, 2025 at 8:50 PM
Almost impossible to Prove deterrence. Inside/outside Dublin. Or Rwanda.
November 18, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Don't know about US law, but in UK that would be assault.
November 18, 2025 at 6:12 PM
Over a 3 year period, < 1200 were deported under Dublin. Not much of a deterrent. Small boat arrivals this year about 40,000.
You may be right that no Dublin is a selling point for the gangs.

Happy to embrace the term "immigrant". Better by far than ex-pat.
November 18, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Thank you, Zoe. Labour should not pander to the anti immigrant lobby. We need to create safe routes and integrate better.
