He’s a real estate guy. Right? Gulf of America! American Greenland. Canada 51st state. I wonder what Puerto Rico thinks? Article 5 of NATO. Used only once. On 9/11. And now this is how we say thank you.

I feel like I get murderer every time I walk into a Safeway.

It’s because of the Clean Water Act. I worked for the EPA when Carol Browner was the Administrator. I sat behind her while she testified about that law She said something awesome… she said that our waters might not be drinkable, but they are no longer flammable. Baby steps.

Having lived most of my life in NYC, the complexity of the system is better understood through Shakespeare. It got built by backstabbing and dishonesty and greed and etc. it was originally a private enterprise. Portland made a decision to redirect highway money to the MAX. It’s built.

Irony.

If you’re feeling all the stress of modern days, downtown Portland is where you want to be. It’s a meditation paradise. No people to deal with. The trains are on time and empty for your trancidental moment. No line a Starbucks. Wait! There isn’t one. It’s a peaceful oasis, Portland has become.

There will never be a French TGV or a German ICE between Seattle and Portland and its environs. Spending money thinking about it is just dumb. What we can hope for are modern trains (already in their way from Siemens vis California) with frequent and reliable times. Let’s get there first.

I’m am very curious to the mindset of anyone who would buy one of his cars. He’s become a radical nation-state. Buying own of those cars is just a donation.

No. Falling asleep on the couch at 10 PM is not a sign of adulthood. Falling asleep in bed at 10 PM, though, is.

The UK privatized British Rail. It’s been a disaster. The government there is now taking it back. Amtrak here is technically a private corporation that the federal government owns all the stock. Depending on who you train to, Amtrak was designed to fail. Or make a profit. It loses money, but exists

The post office more or less is run as a private business fully owned by the government. They just lose billions and billions. Mostly do to things congress makes them. Do, like fully funding ahead of time all employee’s pensions. Who would buy it? Some billionaire obsessed with duck stamps?

Not all rich people are evil. Bill Gates has dedicated his fortune so that one day we can drink our own pee. 🎈

🤣. This is meant as a joke, but it’s actually not: we take all of Mexico’s water rights from. The Colorado River before it gets there. I have a theory: if evolution is real, we will return to living in oceans.

It’s interesting to me, as a former EPA employee, that this fluoridation of water is an issue. The biggest issue nationwide is lead piping. But that’s too expensive to fix. But, tap water is so regulated it’s actually safer than bottled water. No regulations for that. It’s all insane in a way.

Chlorine is federally approved. My home city of New York doesn’t add chlorine. Water just flows through 100 year old viaducts from the Catskills. Reverse osmosis is energy entensive. It it weren’t, California would realize they have a lot of water on their left. 🙃
December 15, 2024 at 8:33 PM
Portland does put chlorine in its water. Damn halogens.
