I don't personally like the league tables. They strike me as an example of attempts at quantification and competition doing more harm than good. But looking at this feels nice. God knows we try, and it's heartening to see that our work for student experience is noticed and appreciated.

It was a good first day at the symposium "Sustainability and spirituality: Building ecologies of hope" hosted by the Academy for Sustainable Futures here at Canterbury Christ Church University. So many inspiring talks! Time for me to talk tomorrow and ruin everything. 😉

Back to the old home for a few days. See you soon for the conference and start of term! #trainsnotplanes

Fresh strawberries from the local farm shop. Can you smell them, too?

St Martin's, the oldest church in England, is right next to our university campus. We enjoyed a morning of exploring the grounds and learning about wild herbs, thanks to the Academy for Sustainable Futures.

It's a good day when the Folk Week programme arrives!

Breaktime view at the conference on Religion, Environment and the Common Good. Not bad, huh?

My wife says I look good in medieval armour. We had a great day at the fair in Battle, Sussex. (To say that we spent the day in battle sounds so odd.) Fun fact: This armour is modelled after a design over 500 years after the Battle of Hastings. It's important not to stereotype "the Middle Ages".

Remarkable and much appreciated that a Belgian brewer chose to use a FOUNTAIN PEN as an advertising gimmick. I bought it in Bruges for very little money and now use it in the office. Holding memories of Belgium in my hand, I write new ones.

Broadstairs Folk Week quoted me in the newsletter, and it's made my weekend! Let music heal the world!

I'm celebrating the successful conclusion of my Psychology of Nations module with a Greek coffee at Canterbury's Amalis café. In keeping with the topic, the café owner says that it's not at all like Turkish coffee and much less bitter! I always enjoy this module and the great students who take it.

The field trip to Dover Castle was an absolute joy again - coincidentally it happened on St George's Day this year, which is quite appropriate for Psychology of Nations!

World Book Day - albeit only celebrated in the UK and Ireland today. It's only a research methods book, but it changed my professional life. After a rather quantitative BSc and a pretty inept PhD study, Smith et al. (2009) finally helped me understand IPA properly. Everything made sense. [1/2]

The Parrot is the oldest pub in Canterbury, dating from the 14th century! Today I'm celebrating the last day of teaching with a Christmas ale from Britain's oldest brewer. What. A. Week.

Christmas time is coming! Hang in there!

Nice to see my poster on victimhood and populism displayed in our psychology seminar room at Canterbury Christ Church University. After the BPS social psychology conference, it now has a second life as a teaching example.

Our 9-year-old had such a lovely time putting up autumn decorations and then taking pictures of them. And now I'm thinking about how I can make the world a better place for him.

If guests like my food so much that they take pictures of it and ask for recipes, I'm happy. This fish tagine is always yummy - practically failsafe.

The nightly traditional music sessions in Madden's Bar were just the best evening entertainment during my conference trip to Belfast! Recommended to all lovers of Irish music.

I enjoyed the @bpsofficial.bsky.social social psychology conference, where I represented Canterbury Christ Church University with our poster on victimhood narratives in pro-Brexit media articles.

Good morning! I obviously needed a particularly strong coffee today. Don't open a new packet of ground coffee beans while still half asleep.

I'm now back in the office, after a very nice holiday in Catalonia, relaxed and full of ideas about how to improve my work and myself. The encounter with reality will come, but that doesn't mean that the good intentions won't survive.

It was a good School away day at Woolton Barn. Thank you for the good day and hospitality!

Lovely atmosphere at Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival, as usual! Sorry, work. Life is too important.
