Bottom line: I know you’ve heard it a million times but flying is incredibly safe. I do it for a living and can promise you it’s safer than anything you’re doing in your own home. Combination of news feeding frenzy and a couple events have everyone freaking out.

It’s not good. But it’s also not what causes planes to crash. Not yet anyway. This hatchet job they’re doing to the government hurts more elsewhere more acutely. The damage to infrastructure like aviation will be slow. Follow me if you want to know when safety is compromised.

This is a small percentage of badly needed workers. But it won’t (directly) affect safety, but rather make flying less efficient. Also, most of those fired were admin staff meaning the already slow work (like approving pilot medical certificates—mine took 8 months initially) will be even slower.
