Oh dear, what started as a bit of practice painting quirky characters is getting out of hand… I suddenly want to paint ALL the Australian animals drinking tea now…
Still undecided whether they need pretty backgrounds or to just let them be…

Last two pieces of the puzzle…
I have four of these Precious Precarious Porcelain paintings heading to a women and birds exhibition at the Mudgee Arts Precinct in December

Work in progress…
This is by far my most over the top painting and it isn’t finished yet (although I am running out of room)
A pack of pretty pardalotes perched on precariously placed precious porcelain

And the Birdlife Bird of the Year winner is…

Tawny Frogmouth

About time in my opinion, although in my portrait of him he looks shocked that she has been chosen… she probably didn’t even write a speech or anything

Would you call this dapper fellow a bush turkey, a scrub turkey or a brush turkey?
I always thought they were bush turkeys…
Is it a geographical thing like the potato scallop/cake controversy?

Maybe I can find something in here which will work

I’ve never painted a Tasmanian devil before so I am having a practice run by painting one drinking tea…
Loooong way to go, but it is a fun challenge.
Next one I paint will be eating cake but I can’t decide if it is devil’s food cake or angel food cake

Every now and then I paint a character who speaks to me (they all do in their own ways, but some more than others). I know that it will be a challenge to let them go when the time comes… this little unfinished possum is one of those characters

Going to have to get our resident wombat to show me his better side for a portrait

Building up quite a collection of these quirky characters sipping tea…
Which is your favourite? And who should I paint next?

Currawong liked his tea strong

Some of my strays set up for a painting of Australian bower birds who collect blue things to decorate their bowers with to woo potential mates

I have been fussing over this furry flippered fellow for the past few days. Is he finished? I am really not sure 🤔
Maybe he needs a bit more fussing

And so it begins…

Today’s desk view…
A bit chaotic, but at least my supervisor has found herself a little bit of sunshine

An eclectic cast of characters on my desk today…

Sorry it has been a while…there is lots going on and I am a bit all over the place, there are things I *should* be doing but I think today I will ignore all the shoulds and just try to focus on this happy little skippy sipping tea…
Not sure if it is earl grey or rooibos in that slightly modified cup

Taking pre orders for my 2026 calendar.

If you are thinking you might like a copy of next year’s calendar I am taking pre orders now. I have kept the price the same despite growing costs as I feel we probably need a bit of whimsy at the moment… I know I do…

Happy Owl Awareness Day!

This is my watercolour painting from 2018 showing a barn owl trying to tempt an antechinus with a piece of cheesecake… I know that I could be tempted with cheesecake so I figured it could work for antechinus too…
