We focus on details that seem invisible but enhance immersion by making gestures feel tactile, suspending disbelief. Touch-free UI still has untapped potential and might get more approachable with VR. Our work has helped vulnerable kids, calming aggression and fear, and increasing therapy outcomes.

In 2019, we developed a cursor solution before Apple's 2020 release. Raising a hand displayed a circle that snapped to buttons, taking their shape and rubber-band with your hand, addressing gesture-tracking noise. We deployed it at a top Wound Care clinic for touch-free wayfinding.

Pre-VR, we built an interactive room for bedridden patients. We pulled this off with a cheap projector and a dome mirror. We created a digital twin of the room, retraced every pixel that left the projector, and then warped it to where we wanted it to be. The result was an unreal medium to play with.

Visual editors, like Unity, introduced a leap in interactivity. Suddenly, we had access to features previously limited to video games: Physics, advanced character animations, realistic lighting, and more. It is a joy to excavate the beach, peek behind kelps, and splash water with your reflection.

In the massive, award-winning garden, I developed a cross-breeding plant system. DNA controls leaves, branching patterns, and flowers. Visitors mix floating seeds to create unique plants. Water and sun then grow them, dropping a fruit for animals to eat. Their seed contributes to the gene pool.

In the beginning, we used captured people’s silhouettes in the infrared, which is unaffected by lighting changes. Working with people’s shadows on the screen, instead of an arbitrary interface like a cursor or pointer, immediately engages them and provides a natural introduction to the experience.
