That when one magnificent, celestial body collapses into itself, the others ignite with an intensified brilliance, their light pulsating more fiercely across the vast, silent expanse. Each shining beacon a luminous cry in the darkness. I want to believe that the sky, an endless tapestry of velvet black, too, holds these memories close, whispering tales of lost stars in the language of the cosmos. And yes, I think of us. Of you. Every time I think of you, every time I remember the way your words made me feel seen. Known. Not just as a scientist. But as a man. As something still alive. You infused my existence with purpose, even when the weight of the work became too heavy for my weary hands. Strange, isn't it? How a stranger became the most constant presence in my life. How I know your theories, your handwriting, your awe for the stars—how I trust your mind more than I’ve ever trusted any face—and yet I would not recognize you if you passed beside me in the street. Sometimes I wonder if you’ve ever looked for me in Zaun. If you’ve ever lingered on a shadow, wondering if it might be me. If you’ve imagined what I sound like, how I walk, what color my hair is. These thoughts about you occupy my mind as well. Every time I gaze up at the vast expanse of the sky, I wonder if, at that very instant, you are doing the same. Do our eyes ever meet on the same distant star, at the same time. You asked once if binary stars love despite the distance. I don’t think they have a choice. And I wonder, am I being selfish for desiring more?

And in that conviction, I turned toward the very technology born from your pursuit of a brighter future, the hundreds of pages you wrote. You sought knowledge to illuminate the world; I sought knowledge to save it. I believed that this technology, your idea, would become the key. A means to step beyond disease and despair, beyond the tyranny of our own bodies and emotions, beyond the relentless ticking of time that hovers above every living soul like a hammer poised to strike. I thought that if I could seize your spark, refine it, perfect it, then perhaps, we could finally reach our full potential unbound by weakness, unbound by our mistakes, unbound by sorrow. Unbound by the inevitable. But I did not understand, then, how vast that burden was. In my naivety, I convinced myself that I could accomplish all of this simply by studying your work, by tracing every line you once penned as though genius might bleed through the ink and into my hands. So, I immersed myself in your equations and blueprints, turning each puzzle piece again and again, searching for the solution that eluded me. Days dissolved into nights, and nights into something colder as solitude stepped in, quiet at first, then suffocating. Every time I believed I was close, the structure collapsed. Every theory carried a fault, every formula a fracture. It was as if one vital element had been removed from the foundation of the work itself, leaving the entire construct fragile and incomplete. Eventually, even I could no longer deny it. This missing piece in every solution. An absence, persistent and hollow, that no amount of intellect, ambition, or desperation could fill. With each failure, it became clearer that the answer refused to take shape not because the theories were flawed, but because I had severed myself from the one mind, the one presence, capable of completing them. And that missing piece…was you, Jayce.
