HB 125, which would provide all students with free school meals, has not yet received a hearing in the House Education Committee. But HB 91 which was introduced after HB 125 and would only cover children who are at or below 225% of the Federal Poverty Line, is scheduled for a committee hearing today

Delaware Working Families Party Statement on Passage of SB21 DOVER, DE — The Delaware Working Families Party on Tuesday released the following statement after the Delaware House of Representatives passed SB21, a bill that would overhaul the state’s laws governing payouts to company shareholders, empowering large shareholders over smaller ones. Karl Stomberg, the Delaware Working Families Party Political Director, released the following statement: “At a time when rank-and-file Democrats across the country are begging their leaders to stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk, Delaware Democrats just gave Musk a $56 billion handout, while Working Families Democrats voted against it. “The Working Families Party has been standing up against this proposed bill for weeks now, and we recognize the need to fight back against corporate overreach in our government. “WFP electeds proposed serious amendments to address our concerns with the bill that would protect the people of Delaware, but the Democrats chose to side with Musk and vote them down. “This bill is an indictment of the failed Delaware Way, which continues to allow big corporations and the ultra-wealthy like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to enrich themselves at the expense of working people. “We look forward to the September 2026 primaries.”

It’s a difficult and confusing day in America. On one hand, we are celebrating Martin Luther King Day, honoring one of the country’s greatest heroes for civil and labor rights. On the other hand, we will also be watching the inauguration of a president who represents the opposite of those values.
I am convinced that this new life will not emerge until our nation undergoes a radical revolution of values. We’re starting to see more progressive Democrats win seats, especially here in Delaware. Do you worry that the classic kind of Delaware Way position is starting to wane, or do you think it will endure? I do worry. I learned and came up in a Delaware political environment which was pretty balanced. Where we had 16 years of Republican governors, Pete du Pont and Mike Castle back to back, and haven’t had one since. And increasingly, the registration has become – as the National Republican Party has become more far-right driven – more Democratic in response. Most of the Republicans of my day were moderate Republicans, and they tend to be a little bit more pro-business. Then the Tom Carper and Ruth Ann Minner mold were more of a pro-business Democrat, which is what I consider myself. I think more worrisome, or what requires more work, is that the newly elected members of city council and the legislature are very young. They haven’t had a lot of real world experience, particularly in employment and the business sector.
