We, as members of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), declare our complete rejection of the constitutional declaration submitted by the Interim Government. As stated in our previous statement dated February 26, 2025, the so-called "National Dialogue Conference" failed to impartially represent social components and political entities. The SDC affirms that any outcome based on this conference remains inadequate in addressing the national issue. This draft constitution reproduces authoritarianism in a new form. It entrenches central rule and grants the executive authority absolute powers. At the same time, it restricts political activity and prohibits the formation of parties. These measures directly obstruct the path of democratic transition. Additionally, the draft completely ignores the necessity of clear mechanisms for transitional justice. The absence of such provisions only deepens the national crisis. The SDC strongly reject any attempt to recreate dictatorship under the guise of a "transitional phase." Any constitutional declaration must be the result of genuine national consensus, not a project imposed by one party. Accordingly, we call for a complete reformulation of the declaration. It must ensure a fair distribution of power, guarantee freedom of political activity, and recognize the rights of all Syrian components. Furthermore, it should adopt a decentralized democratic system of governance with clear mechanisms for achieving transitional justice. Syria is a homeland for all its people. The massacres that we will keep seeing in Syria are probably just the beginning. HTS is a fascist foreign-sponsored contra group whose leader is a trained operative. People who thought that it is edgy to cheerlead al-Qaeda as a revolutionary force and now insist that the behavior of these gangs off western cameras is perfectly normal because they previously experienced violence under Assad are either opportunists, delusional or corrupt to the core and have no red lines. There are enough armed political movements out there, including Sunni majority/Islamic ones, who have experienced all sorts of unspeakable violence and don't do the things that these morally deprived agents describe as a "normal response to Assadism". Many political influencers that have been whitewashing Jolani and his men are dangerous paid agents serving a destructive agenda, the worst possible combination of western imperialism and Islamist fascism. As long as these people shape the discourse and manipulate people who should know better, nobody in the Middle East will be safe from sectarian violence. It doesn't matter who started these clashes in order to know that HTS would go on a killing and torture spree targeting Alawi civilians, which is just a continuation of the kind of thing these fascists have always been and will always be doing. It's unbelievable how some people seek to even blame HTS massacres of Alawis now on Assad. HTS is not going "Assadist". HTS is just being HTS. Because HTS is al Qaeda, HTS is ISIS, HTS is a NATO proxy, HTS is backed by the western states that back Israel's genocide in Palestine. Whoever expected otherwise when calling the HTS takeover "revolution", Jolani "president" of "the new government" should go and deeply question themselves.

Under the UAR (United Arab Republic), recordings of Kurdish music were smashed in cafés. The publication and even the possession of books written in Kurdish language were offenses punishable by imprisonment. Egyptian teachers were sent into Kurdish regions (Nemir 1992: 151). Local tragedies fanned the fires of discontent in northern Syria. For instance, although the facts were never established, the authorities were accused in November 1960 by the inhabitants of Amuda of causing a fire in a movie house that caused the death of 283 Kurdish children. Those responsible for this act were presumably motivated by anti-Kurdish sentiments, the fruits of official propaganda in opposition to Kurdish nationalism associated with Zionism and American imperialism.

Amuda cinema fire Amouda Cinema was a movie theater in Amuda town in Al-Hasakah Governorate of Syria. This cinema burned down in a fire in November 1960 and more than 200 children died inside it, it was believed to have been inspired by ethnic hatred towards Kurds. Fire The victims were mostly Kurds younger than 14 years old. The cinema hall had a capacity of about 200 people, but about 500 children were watching the film at the time of fire. The exits to the cinema had been padlocked and all of the cinema staff had left the building before the fire started. Authorities also prevented onlookers from attempting to save the children, claiming that it was too "dangerous". The children of regime officials did not attend the film. Two Syrian soldiers were stationed at the cinema's entrance. The cinema had four doors, none which were able to be opened during the fire. The film stock, which was old and worn out, caught fire and the flames spread to the wooden roof of the cinema hall. Many of the victims died of suffocation after a cinema door closed into them. Some of the victims decided to jump off a balcony, but did not realize that the balcony was directly above an open well. A wooden beam fell onto and killed a man named Mohammed Said Agha Daqgouri, who saved 12 children from the fire before his death.

The Voice According to Calvino in one of his last, ingenious texts, Italo Calvino leaves us the extraordinary figure of a king who listens. Part of a collection dedicated to the five senses, the king in question represents hearing. He is seated immobile on the throne, ears pricked in order to intercept and decipher the sounds that surround him. Besieged by the logic of his own power, the only activity of the monarch consists in an acoustic control of the realm. In the palace, which, like "a great ear," has "pavilions, ducts, shells, labyrinths," every sound is a sign of either fidelity or betrayal.' There are many hidden spies to interpret: whispers, rumors, vibrations, crashes, oceans of silence. Nat-urally, there are also human voices in the palace. But "every voice that knows it is heard by the King acquires a cold glaze"; it becomes a courtly voice, artificial, false—not so much for what it says, but in its very sonorous materiality. In March 2020, the COl raised the alarm about conditions for Kurdish women in Afrin, warning that: "Recent gender-based violations committed against Kurdish women by armed groups with extremist ideologies have, however, demonstrated an attempt to dismantle these efforts. By targeting almost every aspect of Kurdish women's lives in the Afrin District..armed groups generated a palpable fear of violence and duress among the female Kurdish population." A September 2020 COl report provided further evidence of sexual and gender-based violence: "The situation for other Kurdish women remains precarious. Since 2019, Kurdish women throughout the Afrin and Ra's al-Ayn regions have faced acts of intimidation by Syrian National Army brigade members, engendering a pervasive climate of fear which in effect confined them to their homes. Women and girls have also been detained by Syrian National Army fighters, and subjected to rape and sexual violence - causing severe physical and psychological harm at the individual level, as well as at the community level, owing to stigma and cultural norms related to ideations of "female honour.”” In March 2021, the COl reported that: "As Syrian National Army detention practices rapidly evolved, women were increasingly rendered vulnerable to abduction (some for the purposes of forced marriage), and detained at checkpoints or during home and village raids. While detained, Kurdish (and, on occasion, Yazidi) women were also raped and subjected to other forms of sexual violence, including degrading and humiliating acts, threats of rape, performance of "virginity tests", or the dissemination of photographs or video material showing the female detainee being abused."

Mohammad al-Jasim and Walid al-Jasim, leaders of the Suleiman Shah Brigade, and Sayf Boulad Abu Bakr, leader of the Hamza Division, were also sanctioned "for their connection to serious human rights abuses." The Treasury designation noted that the Suleiman Shah Brigade "subjects the populace of this area [Afrin] to abductions and extortion. The brigade has targeted Afrin's Kurdish residents, many of whom are subjected to harassment, abduction, and other abuses until they are forced to abandon their homes or pay large ransoms for return of their property or family members." Commander Mohammad al-Jasim directed members of the Brigade to "forcibly displace Kurdish residents and seize their property, providing vacated homes for Syrians from outside the region who are often related to fighters in the brigade" and "ordered the brigade to kidnap local residents, demanding ransom in return for their release and confiscating their property as part of an organized effort to maximize the brigade's revenue, likely generating tens of millions of dollars a year." The designation noted that both Mohammad al-Jasim and Walid al-Jasim have been accused of sexual assault. The Hamza Division, the designation said, "has been involved in abductions, theft of property, and torture. The division also operates detention facilities in which it houses those it has abducted for extended periods of time. During their imprisonment, victims are held for ransom, often suffering sexual abuse at the hands of Hamza Division fighters." While Sayf Boulad Abu Bakr has been commander, it added, "the Hamza Division has been accused of brutal repression of the local population, including kidnapping Kurdish women and severely abusing prisoners, at times leading to their death."

The revolution in Rojava presents itself as a third alternative path, different from either the Syrian opposition or the state. However, it did not simply emerge out of nowhere: Kurds and many other groups, including Christians and Arabs, that do not belong to the elite circle of the Syrian regime, have historically been subjected to torture, assimilation, and oppression. The Syrian regime had implemented concrete Arabization plans for the predominantly Kurdish regions, such as the state-planned "Arab belt" of villages near the border with Turkey. The Kurdish language was banned in public, and children were punished with physical violence if they spoke Kurdish in the schoolyard. Thousands of civilians vanished into the torture prisons of the Syrian regime. Fascist Turkey, the Syrian regime, and ISIS. As much as each of these forces may have used different policies against women, they are all grounded in the same patriarchal and state mentalities. Certainly, horror and violence in history have always taken on different dimensions and generally reached new dimensions in recent years, especially concerning the Turkish dictatorship. However, we can generally speak of a Third World War developing in recent years, the center of which is also here in Kurdistan and in north and east Syria. Accordingly, the women of the region have experienced a great deal of violence and suffering. This includes Turkey's war of aggression, including the use of phosphorus chemical weapons in Serê Kaniyê, and the abduction and rape of women by Turkey and its aligned mercenaries in the Turkish-occupied areas. It includes the daily horror of ISIS torturing, enslaving, raping, and killing women. For women, in order to make fundamental change, they first have to fundamentally question a modernity that sells, exploits, rapes, degrades, and disrespects women and turns them into commodities. If we understand this, we can understand that there is a need for women to organize together and take charge of major areas of their lives. This has to happen in an autonomous way, including in self-defense. Without autonomy, liberation cannot be reached because there is simply no space where women can question and overcome patriarchal influences. For sure, there is no one specific program that you can just place into any society. Our approach to women's liberation is so unique that we attempt to analyze the core of women's enslavement by analyzing and teaching about the roots of women's oppression that developed after the Neolithic Age. This also leads us to develop different perspectives than the ones of many feminists and critical thinkers, in the sense that we see the need to analyze even further the nature of the issue and its historical roots. If we do not do this, we can fall again into the trap of staying within the framework of liberalism or simply not succeed in developing solutions for society.

Drone footage published by an SNA-affiliated Telegram channel on January 22, verified by Human Rights Watch, shows two small air-dropped munitions explode in a crowd of men and women at Tishreen Dam, where they were protesting and doing a traditional Kurdish dance in a line. A caption says: "The armed drone sends congratulations and blessings to the SDF celebrations at Tishreen Dam." Video of the attack aftermath posted to social media channels on and after January 18 show unarmed protesters rushing to attend to people who are wounded or apparently dead. The Turkish Armed Forces and SNA have a poor human rights record in areas of northern Syria under Turkish occupation. Human Rights Watch has found that SNA factions and other groups, including members of the Turkish Armed Forces and intelligence agencies have abducted, unlawfully arrested, and detained people, including children; committed sexual violence and torture with little accountability; and engaged in looting, theft of land and housing, and extortion.

Statement Regarding the Lies of (the White Helmets - Civil Defense) In the context of ongoing fabricated and false reports, the White Helmets - Civil Defense organization has published false accusations against our forces, claiming the use of incendiary weapons in a bombing targeting the village of Tal Arsh, south of Manbij, on January 21. These accusations are allegedly based on testimonies from civilians. We categorically reject these premeditated and systematic accusations, which are entirely detached from reality. We would like to to draw the attention of the mentioned organization and the public opinion to the tangible facts documented by photographs, that clearly show the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA) mercenary groups using civilian homes, shops, and farms to hide their weapons and armored vehicles, using them as bases for missile and artillery attacks targeting areas such as the Tishreen Dam, southern and eastern Manbij, southern Kobani, and Sarrin. These actions occur openly under the eyes of Civil Defense personnel. The photos and videos shared by the so-called SNA-affiliated platforms themselves confirm the use of civilian infrastructure during their attacks on the Tishreen Dam, directly belie the White Helmets' allegations. Our forces, which have consistently adhered to international law even in battles against the most dangerous organizations like ISIS, have canceled numerous legitimate response operations against Turkish-backed mercenaries (the Syrian National Army) in southern and eastern Manbij. This decision was made to protect civilian lives, as these mercenaries deliberately position themselves in civilian-populated areas. We call on the White Helmets organization to refrain from aligning themselves with mercenary groups affiliated with Turkey and to avoid concealing their well-documented crimes. The strikes come amid reports that the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Intelligence have been summoning, threatening, and interrogating Kurdish civilians and activists in cities across Kurdistan in recent days. In a further escalation, security forces have been conducting mass arrests in cities such as Piranshahr and Sardasht, in an apparent effort to instil fear in the local population. According to Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) sources, the strike in Sanandaj, Mahabad, Saqqez and Divandarreh is widespread, and police responsible for policing public places have reportedly either sealed off or marked dozens of shops for possible closure if the strike continues. Security officials have warned shopkeepers through phone calls and text messages that their businesses will be closed if they continue the strike, KHRN has learned. In an apparent attempt to divert public attention and discourage participation in the strike, several state news agencies in Iran reported this morning that the death sentence for Pakhshan Azizi had been “postponed”. These reports were later contradicted. As the strike continued, Pakhshan Azizi’s lawyer, Mazyar Tataei, announced on his X (formerly Twitter) account that the Supreme Court had agreed to halt the execution under Article 478 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This article suspends the execution until a request for a retrial is considered. However, no official changes have been made to Pakhshan Azizi’s death sentence.
