One of two old churches in downtown Winnipeg. Both over 150 yrs old. Made of a light stone, it has a steeple that reaches for the sky and many round windows along the side. Built of a light coloured stone, the roof is peaked & the building includes peaks in a lot of its design An 4 story old building made of a lighter coloured brick sits above a far more modern glass enclosed space where a bar now sits. The building has a couple balconies in the middle with a door in the middle. An 5 story old building made of orange brick with light brick accents around the edges and windows. On the bottom level, the brick has been painted a bright yellow.

Part of the 1919 Marquee dedicated to the 1919 General strike in Winnipeg Manitoba. A rust coloured, rectangular display broken up into squares 8 high, 13 wide. There are letters on many of the squares & some squares have holes. When lit up at night, the squares with holes show the numbers 1919.

I'm not sure what all these buildings are called, their age, or even exactly where I was when I took these, but the never ending examples of cool old architecture here in Winnipeg is a thrill.
An old light stone building 9 stories tall stands at the peak of the intersection of two roads creating the tip of a triangle. The sky is a midnight blue and lights can be seen in the windows as a street light lights the sidewalk. A very old, probably turn of the century medium brown brick building stands wall to wall between two other buildings. Four stories tall, the top windows are arched with a lighter stone underweight to accent. There is a red light coming from the farthest right top window. There is a dark steel fire escape on each floor with the bottom ladder pulled up. Above the top windows is a neo-classical design. A well lit light stone building in a neo-classical design with two pillars flanking a large, arch way of windows. Above, the roof is peaked & there is a carving in the middle lit up by lights. Below the window are two smaller columns flaking a rectangular entrance way. Behind are modern buildings full of windows. A 3 story, light brick w red accents building stands on a corner with the main floor entrance facing the sidewalk. The stories are lined with well spaced windows accented by a deep red carved overhand. At the top is a red accent running along the whole floor.

The history of the area Winnipeg now sits on is thousands of years old. The Forks, as it's called now (where the Assiniboine & Red River connect) has been a gathering place for Anishinaabe, Ininew, & Dakota ppl, & is the birth place of the Metis Nation. There is a strong Indigenous presence here.
Located at the storied Portage & Main intersections (one of the windiest places in the country) is the old Bank of Montreal building built between 1911 - 1913. It has a neo-classical style with 6 columns in front. The words "Bank of Montreal" are carved in stone above them. It has been reclaimed by the Metis Nation of Manitoba & is currently undergoing some renovations for this purpose. A banner across the front proclaims it as a future home for the Metis Nation. Indigenous ppl reclaiming colonizer landmarks is a good thing.

One thing about Winnipeg, as opposed to the rest of western Canadian cities, is that it is old (by our standards) & they seem to not destroy their old buildings. Some still standing were built in the late 1800s & are still in use.

It was built between 1908 - 1911. It was a joint venture between 3 railways. It displays the yellow Via sign with the red maple leaf beside it. An old red brick apartment building 5 stories high plus a basement level. There are 3 sections, a wider one in the middle & 2 "wings" on either side w bay window on 4 floors. The sections are connected by 3 levels of balconies, each with a 4 floor to ceiling windows that can be opened. Below the balconies are spaces allowing people to walk under the balconies and to the entrances. Not sure of year built.

Obviously we're going to see things like tickets, head injuries, muscle atrophy, etc b/c of the conditions they have been living in, not just for a cpl yrs, but for decades! Muscle atrophy can be caused by malnutrition ffs. Head injuries? Gee, I wonder if being bombed would cause those?

My dog shared a dance with a lovely German Shepard at daycare today.
Two dogs, a tall German Shepard & a much shorter Black & white basset hound appear to be sharing a romantic dance up on the hind legs. The German Shepard has its legs wrapped around the basset under his arms & the basset has his paws resenting gently on the Shepard's shoulders.

Today I learned that my great grandfather, lauded psychiatrist Henry Atkinson, was in fact NOT a supporter of eugenics at a time when it was popular to be one. (incorrectly referred to as Hewley in this article).

Manitoba didn't look like that when it was admitted to the federation. It was nicknamed "The Postage Stamp" province b/c of its size & shape. It was expanded in 1881 to include about 1/3 of what it is now, then expanded again in 1912 to the size it is today.
