Sociologist of religion. Catholic. Normie liberal. Mostly on hiatus from posting unless and until this site improves.
A tendentious and ludicrous impression.

Occam's razor. They were just cowards.

A similar question I have wondered about many times: Why didn't far more ostensibly liberal professors show Nicholas's courage in speaking out against left-illiberalism circa 2015-2021?

Anti-anti-Trumper challenge: Draw a coherent and valid comparison between Obama and Trump. Difficulty level: impossible.
June 25, 2025 at 12:29 AM
You are not allowed to hold anti-anti-Trumpers responsible for their vote. (Even if they spent the last four years being condescending assholes to Biden supporters.) That's mean and not fair!

Oh man, I almost posted the exact same thing when I saw that, lol.

As a side note, it's kind of funny how much conservatives struggle to find substantive criticisms of Obama.

"Well, Trump might be in cognitive decline just like Biden was, but uh. . . .where was Obama on the night of Benghazi, huh, libral? Answer me that!!"

The notion that Republicans who voted for Trump are the people responsible for his ascension and takeover of the party is anathema. No matter how absurd the logic (or lack thereof), blame must be pinned on Democrats.

For Stephen L. Miller (@RedSleaze) it's the fault of Obama and his supporters.

"How can you call me an anti-anti-Trumper if Alex Soros once said something dumb? Checkmate, Dem!"
June 24, 2025 at 11:17 PM
Whataboutism is a core aspect anti-anti-Trumpism. Here's a particularly egregious example: Justifying Trump's wrongdoing 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 because Biden took the precaution of pardoning 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵 people so they couldn't be maliciously prosecuted.

Query whether the "FIRE caused Trump's bad acts against higher ed by advocating against campus illiberalism for 20 years before Trump was even a thing" crowd will similarly criticize the liberal scholars & activists who left this particular loaded gun laying around for the right to pick up

No?

This is a good test, and I think you're prediction will probably be correct.

Summary.
In my opinion, 15 out of 21 get a passing/satisfactory grade (71 percent). That's better than critics like Klion imply. But there are a few people who can and should do better to rise to meet this moment. The current threats from the Trump admin are much worse than the excesses of wokeism.

I have higher expectations for those who made free speech and criticism of left-illiberalism part of their "brand." I give credit for retweeting others' criticisms of Trump, but I give more credit for original words and writing. I've looked up statements from people who aren't on social media much.

Oh, well in that case all the death threats are definitely warranted.
