When we ask people what issues matter to them most, we’re biasing the result by assuming ANY issue matters to them more than being entertained. The closest pollsters historically get to this is the “who would you rather have a beer with?” question. The reality is, in a fractured media ecosystem 4/x

As a means for the public to direct how we evolve (or not) as a country based on policies and programs. That a lot of Americans simply think of politics as sports in which they pick a team and root for it is, antithetical to them. Most polls don’t help…. 3/x

The obvious answer may be the correct one in our era of algorithmic SocMed designed to trigger emotional responses: Voters choose their favorite character who is most entertaining/engaging. Political pros (esp Dems) hate this because it goes against how they view politics: 2/x
