Went to see City of God at @austinfilm.bsky.social and of course had to read about the development history of Cidade de Deus.
The state built a bunch of low-income, single-family housing, which the residents swiftly autoconstructed back into the dense, mixed-use favelas they were forced out of.

In a just world, California and Texas would draw their new maps together and make them conditional on the other's being drawn fairly. They won't because both parties like to have uncompetitive districts. Much easier to be a Congressman when you don't have to campaign.
My Democratic colleagues and I just left the state of Texas to break quorum and stop Trump’s redistricting power grab.

In a just world, California and Texas would draw their new maps together and make them conditional on the other's being drawn fairly. They won't because both parties like to have uncompetitive districts. Much easier to be a Congressman when you don't have to campaign.

This might be the best idea I've heard for financing small apartment buildings on single family lots:
Homeowners could effectively front the equity so builders don't have to, and they wouldn't have to move out until the permitting and financing are lined up.
Let's do this?
