Collector of academic degrees and chronic illnesses. Mom. Creator of dust-gathering wonders. Cripplingly incapable of participating in capitalism.
I’m enjoying @unlearnecon.bsky.social’s new book, which I received for my birthday, opened to the first page and started reading, and have hardly stopped reading since.

I have, however, gotten to the part where I’m just writing “fuck” in the margins. (Also there’s a rare typo on this page.)

To be absolutely, 100% clear, THIS is something that ends in “then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out”
This extreme escalation is an egregious violation of first amendment rights. Now is the moment to speak out and oppose this as fiercely and loudly as possible.

And our politics apparently does not care about physics, either.

Carbon pollution is the highest in 800,000 years and the rate of increase is actually *accelerating,* with CO2 rising by a record amount last year.

One very real effect of nonsensical, unscientific verbiage is that institutions mitigate their own risks by over-complying. We saw it with hospitals in states with abortion bans yeeting pregnant women with complications. It will get “easier” to be like “no trans stuff pls.” It’s intentional.

I read Kelly’s piece again this morning when I woke up at 5 and couldn’t get back to sleep. Which reminds me: here’s something you can do if you’re in the Twin Cities.

the email template the office of personnel management sent out to federal agency heads for laying off their DEI teams in compliance of trump’s executive order is absolutely unhinged.

I want people to stop posting vague advice like “build community”

A lot of people don’t know how to start. Post practical things like “here’s a list of mutual aid groups to connect with” or something

Yeah. I know what you are saying is part of the standard belief structure, so I'm not criticizing you for saying it. I just don't believe it. I think people knew what they were voting for or staying home to let happen.

They wanted exactly this. They think, somehow, it will help them.

Well, that’s an ominous name for a government agency.

"This goes against everything America stands for!" I shout, as the algorithmic sentencing machine condemns me to death.

italian students ignite online discussion over the meaning of an art installation
Today in Milan, a student activist group hung a trash-filled effigy of Musk upside down on a gate outside of piazzale Loreto, where Mussolini's body was displayed in 1945.
They left the message: "C'è sempre posto a piazzale Loreto, Elon" (There's always room in piazzale Loreto, Elon)

a particularly incompetent, corrupt or malicious administration need not even bother with those polite legal fictions. who's going to stop the government from breaking the law? the courts filled with judges they appointed? the army and police they control?

even if you do have the time, knowledge and resources to fight an unlawful government decision, the remedies available to you are only as good as the tribunals and courts that order and enforce them. it doesn't matter if you're right if a judiciary stacked with political appointees says you aren't.

lots of folks saying things like, "the government won't be able to revoke your passport for no reason, that's against the law!"

I help people fight unlawful government decisions for a living. please believe me when I say that the government routinely breaks the law and they mostly get away with it.

The rules, if you are keeping track:

If a single left activist anywhere in the world says "defund the police," it becomes the official position of the Democratic Party, now and forever.

If the president's top surrogate repeatedly sieg-heils on stage, it's ambiguous, impossible to interpret.
