Caution, tentativeness, sensitivity to context & judgement should have been built in by those heavily promoting their use. I’d like to see an acknowledgment (in the CCF and ECF, for example) that cognitive science approaches capture a particular aspect of learning and not the whole picture. This might help to open up the dialogue about what else might be significant.

I have a lot of experience with dialogic teaching and collaborative learning in the secondary English classroom, informed by 20 years direct classroom experience, research for my MA and ongoing research for my EdD. I also lead lectures on whole-school oracy at the university where I work.
