Remembrance Day, Conderation Square, downtown Ottawa. At left, the unveiling of the National War Memorial in 1939 by King George just before WWII began. Next, mid 1950s after the Korean War & WWll. Then, a vacant space in 1930.
So much conflict & innocent lives lost since then. #Peace where are you?

Canadian investment in peace-keeping roles from 1950 to 2020. Now Carney increases spending on the military. it is time to ask loudly where we are going.

Give yourself two minutes of enchantment by watching 'The Keeper's Nest's. The creations of UK artist, Judith Hope, as filmed by Susan Tuckwell celebrate both #birds and humanity's aspirations. Find the film trailer here at this link.

Has anyone here seen them in action?

I had always thought this phrase meant a sort of tearing around with harmless but confused abandon which might be able to discombobulate the status quo.
I learned today that it implies a lawless mob of angry people bent on violence or even murderous acts.
NOT for peaceful disruption. Dang it all!

Public protests over Trump's administration and reaction to"No Kings' concept as of Oct. 20.
Will general strikes be next? Globally, that has been the most efective form of getting action.

Barney Panofsky's Best Intentions @mynamesnotgordy.bsky.social has been required to focus on the mayhem to the south of us, so to honour his commentary on Canadian struggles, I am posting this meme. Can be modified to suit almost any BS that is piled high

As the seasons change, millions of migratory #birds are taking off on their incredible journeys across plains, seas, mountains and multiple international borders along the way. This natural event brings us together to celebrate the second peak date of World Migratory Bird Day, Saturday, 11 October.

This is what sharing truth looks like if there is going to be reconciliation.

I live in Ontario. We in Eastern Canada are at peak colour for our deciduous trees. No matter how often one experiences this incomparable gaudy show, it takes your breath away!
A friend with a shop in my small town created this ad. It speaks well to the enormity of the splendour. Road trip!

Well now, obeying this instruction could be awkward...

The recent shooting death in the U.S. & cannonizing of that person is bringing out dangerous vitriol from many.
Please - no matter how angry you are - choose words to foster #peace & positive interaction. Your righteous anger will NOT reach the extremists but may incite others to violence.

Treated to seeing a young of the year American Bittern today, by chance. I vainly search for the breeding pair each year but have only ever heard, not seen, the 'swamp pumps' as these secretive #birds are called in my part of Ontario.

Because wonders never cease.....particularly for #bird loving nerds😜
(personally speaking, of course)

Extreme dryness this summer ramped up wildfires & stunted crops in Canada across the entire country for a big part of the summer. Moving trains are even causing fires tracks-side south of my location!
Still waiting for significant rain in southern Ontario. www.statista.com/chart/25101/...

"Collaboration results in systems change."
Words are all we have to share concepts. Kudos to this nonprofit organization whose major function is to support under-funded social services. Sadly, groups do have to compete for grants but the funders are strong promoters of leveraging the support.

"educating your own judgements" said Doris Lessing - is essential to escape indoctrination.
With hundreds of years of human thought from so many cultures and even other civilizations at our finger tips now; it is STILL hard to leave the dominant echo chamber.

It is the 80th anniversary of the day the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima as WWII ended. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people died instantly or had horrible suffering before death came.
A day to renew your personal pledge to work for #peace
& a global end to nuclear weapons.

"Elbows Up" is now a uniting phrase as Canadians work to be a #sustainable nation.
Consider this idea to build justice & #peace. In 2005, BC Indigenous artist Curtis Wilson - Wei Wai Kum First Nation created an inclusive flag.
Wilson called it “Gelgapola, standing together in support of each other.”

Worried for the home of Wisdom the Laysan Albatross & all life there. Low-lying Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge experienced 2 major tsunami waves in the last twelve hours. One wave was almost 3 m in height.
Hundreds of thousands of vulnerable sea #bird chicks there who can't fly yet. 🥺.
