First day working in my new office, re-engaging with a paper I've not been able to work on for a few weeks for various (marking) reasons.

It's not too bad, if - ahem - still 3k too long.

When you need another coffee - and want to re-hang the laundry outside because the rain has finally stopped - and one of your research assistants (whose birthday it is, incidentally) decides he needs a lapnap...

Email - dispelling the myth that nothing happens in universities over the summer.

I've only been away for two weeks...

Goodbye to D27, my on-off LU home for the past six years. We're all being shunted around - mostly into shared offices - as part of the grand faculty reorganisation/cost cutting/interdisciplinary master plan (delete as appropriate).

My daughter did leave a message for the new incumbent-/s...

Hugely insightful walk behind the curtain of the review and journal editing process from @profjayneosgood.bsky.social as part of our @edreslancaster.bsky.social Summer School. Particularly taken with the explicit approach of a feminist ethic of care in writing reviews - no room for Reviewer 2!!!

Fascinating insights on connecting policy and research with @paulashwin.bsky.social and Charles Clarke as part of our @edreslancaster.bsky.social summer school.

Researchers must be clear and concise, representing their bodies of knowledge, providing concrete steps that policy makers can take.

My co-authors have tired of our running around in rhetorical circles; I have no choice but to press on, seeking a way out of the vortex.

Reporting something unusual on the West Coast Main Line - my train is on time! 😁

Really looking forward to having some fascinating conversations about Campus Geographies @srhe.bsky.social today.

Finally read Brit (ish) by @afuahirsch.bsky.social

Should be required reading for almost anyone interested in understanding how and why the UK fosters such a sense of unbelonging in so many of us, creating division and crisis, and continues to serve the interests of a powerful minority.

Good morning - and it's a fine one, too!

FWIW, I was approached by @timeshighered.bsky.social to comment for a piece on job cuts and the implications for staff and our practices.

We need more public awareness of what's happening in UK HE, and THE is paywalled anyway, but they're not passive actors in all of this. I said no.

A profusion of thoughts, memories, and emotions, as I walked in through the door of the @soebrisresearch.bsky.social for a #PhD viva today, almost exactly 10 years since I left. 🙄

Also the viva is next door to the room where I had mine!

Off to my doctoral alma mater @soebrisresearch.bsky.social for a viva tomorrow. What are the odds of timely arrivals?

My fourth train trip this month and the results have not been good so far!
