Alpha Male? Arsenic and Old Lace? Bringing Up Baby? There's gotta be like 30 or 40 actors from his generation who better personify "alpha male." Even North By Northwest where he's an action hero, it works cause he's a silly debonair playboy in way over his head, not macho or alpha.

IIRC his guitar skills, at least partially, was why he was cast in Deliverance, for that famous dueling banjos scene.

Also, the Luddites were based, and it was a nasty trick of oligarchs turning the term into an insult. The Luddites weren't anti-technology or anti-science. They were pro-human and pro-worker.

The 2010 sequel wasn't a flop though? "Underperformed" probably, but it was still profitable. I think the DVD/blu-ray sold very well too.
