I’m not diminishing the need to talk about the vastness of Creation - that was not new in the 70s (see Psalm 8) nor is it irrelevant now or in the future - but the language we use to talk about it. Interstellar is a prime example. We just do not use that word the way we used to creating 1/x

The other prayers successfully use contemporary language in a way that preserves the timeless quality of what is happening at the table, but C makes the imp inside me want to sneak “groovy” in place of the “Amen.”

By feeling so tied to a specific time, I always feel pulled out of the timelessness that characterizes the Eucharist.

Are there more 70s expressions than “vast expanse of interstellar space” or “this fragile earth, our island home”? The fact that people call it the Star Wars prayer is a clear indication that the language is too dated.
