The billionaires who run major media companies may decide that it’s in their best financial interests to ease up on criticism of Trump.

But if they do so, they forfeit the critical role that the media plays in our democracy. They owe the American public frank answers.

We owe a debt to these heroes we can never fully repay.

Trump has attacked or sued the media, universities, and law firms—institutions that are independent, raise uncomfortable facts, or have investigated him in the past.

We cannot stand by as he uses every part of government to suppress those who disagree and speak out.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

Let’s be clear about what’s happening. Violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low. There is no emergency. This is a test run. If the courts, Congress, and the rest of us let him get away with this, he’ll do it in every city that doesn’t capitulate to him.
