spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

I didnt realize it wasnt obvious until a couple DMs, but folks who need mutual aid to survive ask for gift cards or wishlist items bc:

- low chance of affecting benefits negatively
- can get wants & needs without pulling from desperate survival fund
- alleviates spending while struggling guilt

The dehumanization tactics will only get worse

Saying he’s a “criminal illegal alien & not a firefighter” is meant to make you see him as less than a person.

They do the same thing to disabled people. We’re “useless eaters”.

They want you to view others as expendable so they can commit atrocities
After José's arrest sparked outrage in August, DHS attacked him in a press release, calling him a "criminal illegal alien, not a firefighter." DHS has cited a 12-year-old drug delivery charge while failing to acknowledge the charge was dismissed.

SNAP benefits weren’t stopped by the shutdown, they were stopped by Trump’s lawbreaking.

Under US law there is a dedicated SNAP fund for shutdowns, Trump refused to spend it, lost in court, defied the court order, took the issue to the Supreme Court.

And guess what? He’s still pursuing that case.

This allows Trump (via DOJ) to use taxpayer money to bribe eight GOP Senators. It's that simple, there's no other way to describe it.

And where's the compensation for people injured by the Trump admin's unlawful conduct through DHS & DOGE?

Take a bow, @schumer.senate.gov, you did this.

Today on Armistice Day, it’s worth remembering that the peace deal was so broken that nearly 3000 men died in the hours before the agreement took place, because no truce was included in the deal. I want to tell you about what might be the dumbest of those deaths.

Authors, Beware! There's a firm called "ClaimsHero" doing aggressive social media outreach claiming to
"help" you file to get $ in the Anthropic class action. In fact, it's a bait-and-switch, they are luring authors to sign up with them, then OPTING THEM OUT of the class action so they'll get zilch.

Apropos of nothing in particular: SHOES

Per the FEMA training I took 30 years ago, the one thing that best ensures your survival in a disaster is whether you made it out of the building with shoes on.

Everything else can just be scrap-wraps, but shoes are high-tech. Put them on first, then run.

It's probably not something anybody would have standing to challenge, but a straightforward case could be made this violates the 27th Amendment. By limiting it to only senators, the value of this cause of action is thus a perk, a kind of 'compensation,' granted simply because they're senators.
