A lovely Adelaide launch for Grace Notes by Jennifer Liston. Bringing to life the famed Irish Pirate Queen Gráinne Mhaol, reconnecting oral and written histories with poetry, song, and resolute rigour. A master class in literary historical reconstruction.

So happy to see these epicormic shoots emerging from the trunks of some Mt Lofty cup gums. This tiny forest of gums form a tiny forest was badly impacted by the long dry spell last summer. These buds are a drought (and fire) adaptation. A relief to see them appear. #naturewriting #inspiration

Pretty delighted about how the writing hut has turned out. Pretty impressive upgrade from the open, leaky, dirt-floored shed by the dam.

Enjoyed Dawkin's latest Book of the Dead. Reviewing a book well is not always easy so it's also nice to have that work appreciated.

Amazing encounter with a cassowary at Etty Bay. They've become more common here in recent years. Saw another two on the road out. Never saw them when I lived here. Incredible birds, if a bit intimidating. #auswildlife #ausbirds

Great speed reads night at Bibliotheca Bar for the #StoryandtheSelf conference in Adelaide with #iaba and #asal. Great venue, fab readers and appreciative audience.

Love the charactersitic knobbly #gumnuts on Southern Bluegums. Don't often see the #blossoms high up on these tall straight trees, but some helpful cockies had been pruning this one. #plants #australiannatives #eucalypts

The great wedgetailed eagle release. Perhaps not the most dignified but a relief for all of us. #Australianwildlife #nature #eagle #rurallife

Celebrating the Adelaide launch of James Bradley's new #crime novel Landfall. In conversation via jenga with the esteemed Lisa Bennett at the Howling Owl. #booksinbars supported by Dymocks Adelaide. "A thrilling read".

Distracted during an online meeting by eagles flying low over the house. Completely inadequate photos but wedgies are such speccy birds!

Another dry day for the driest year on record in the driest state on the driest inhabited continent. Trees dying, tanks empty, dams dried to dust (not ours tho). Waiting for summer to break, the fire season to end and to breathe a sigh of relief. Chance of a spot of rain today apparently🤞.

Beautiful light this morning. Hard to drag myself away but Writers Week beckons.

Watching trees die in the forest due to summer drought. We haven't had any significant rain (more than 10mm) since November and only 6 days of any rain at all in the last three months. Less than half our summer average. And nothing in sight yet. Not good.

Wonderful encounter with some very inquisitive and enthusiatic echidnas (Cleland Wildlife Park). Love meeting animals that feel safe around humans and seeing how normally solitary animals engage socially. Echidna care has come a long way in the last 30 years! #newbook #naturewriting #ozwildlife
