"Honk If You're Not In a Cult"
Morris County, NJ, August 18, 2025
(And yes, I honked!)

I was the only one at work who felt this one and I was wondering if I'd imagined it

The little family of blue jays living under our deck
June 4, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Proud Mama blue jay outside our slider, under the eaves of the deck. (Zoom photography through a dirty glass door is challenging, but it's not like we're stepping outside to clean the door right now. Don't want to disturb the little family!)

Something appears to be happening in the nest on our deck outside. We can't see INTO the nest, but this is the most activity there's been since they started sitting a couple weeks ago.

I finished the second sleeve on my sweater and just need to do the button bands and collar. This will be done just in time for summer!

I've made a 775-day streak at Duolingo but it feels kind of pointless at this point since I finished the German course. I think I might just ... Stop.

The pattern says four more inches before the ribbing, but I think this is long enough! Glad to get back to knitting 🧶after my two-week Bronchitis hiatus.

Tea and genealogy with this cute little tea tray I bought this morning. Useful distraction!

Spring is definitely coming!
March 17, 2025 at 11:49 PM
Well, I guess that explains the excessive coughing going on this week....
March 6, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Everything is awful, but I think we can agree that I picked the absolute perfect scarf to go with my handknit 🧶 sweater this morning. So at least there's that.
February 20, 2025 at 9:39 PM
I'd forgotten how much I like knitting cables. 🧶

Because, if you're going to work from home because of the miserable weather, why WOULDN'T you make yourself a lot of tea with a fine china cup from your grandmother?

Swatching isn't my favorite thing... 🧶

I like that this coffee shop has a store copy of Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny" available for all its customers to read. (Sweet Vinyl in Denville NJ) @timothysnyder.bsky.social

I've got 21 skeins of this Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran yarn that's so old, it moved with me 15 years ago. Its color is called Merlot, and I think it's been patient long enough, don't you? (And yes, thinking about knitting instead of the uniformly awful news about, well, everything.)

Blocking my new sweater downstairs in the living room so that I can hopefully wear it tomorrow! ,

This is how much of my handspun yarn I had left. (Eyeglasses for scale.) I think it's safe to say I would NOT have had enough yarn if I hadn't worked on those other colors on the edges!

Decisions, decisions .. 🧶

Knitting is done! Needs blocking to keep the garter stitch edges from folding inward and, obviously, buttons. Right now, they're marked by stitch markers--and also a purl stitch at each location in case it's necessary later on. 🧶
January 31, 2025 at 7:24 PM
It's really hard to get the colors accurate, but these are my top two choices for buttons. The green matches the sweater really well, the purple-burgundy matches the purple in the trim. 🧶
January 31, 2025 at 12:05 AM
It helps to pick the buttons before knitting the button bands and--more importantly--the buttonholes!
January 30, 2025 at 11:40 PM
I'm not done with the knitting yet, but I've got the bottom, the collar, and both sleeve cuffs done and the number of dangling ends was starting to make me twitch. So! I wove in all the ends and now just have the two button bands to go! 🧶

Went to a wedding last night and it was so nice to do something fun, optimistic, and joyful after this last week.
