I saw it for the first time this year and couldn’t agree more! I thought there was an almost paradoxical quality to his performance where he’s very convincing as a slacker but he also seems very emotionally mature. Like, you can kind of tell that Bridges is a dad in real life?

That’s too bad! Del Toro clearly loves the novel and I was hoping he’d do better than that. The idea that Victor would ask that of the Creature, though, would all by itself indicate a pretty significant thematic departure from Shelley at best.
