A new TTRPG system made by a pair of nerds with a love for D&D, MtG and video games.
The last Scoundrel subclass is Duelist. Scoundrels rakish nature meets Guardians tough skin in a martial artist that can use their body and improvised weapons to damage and move people around. Later on, their damage becomes roughly equal to a Warriors and can also make more attacks in a turn.

Scoundrel and Mageborn make Bard, the cunning mage who uses words to bemuse and demotivate. Granting access to spells too, the Bard can also become skilled in any Ability when they make that check, allowing for a Bard who can be good at anything. Their spells also generate extra detriments too.

Rune Thief is the subclass between Scoundrel and Scribe. Becoming one grants access to spells, while also granting you the ability to throw using your Finesse, meaning you can throw your Runes further, increasing the effective range of your spells and allowing you to damage from afar.

We have already spoken about Assassin under Warrior, but becoming one through Scoundrel gives them a major damage boost via Hidden Strike if they can use their abilities well in combat. Scoundrel Assassins are lethal in combat due to their ability to snipe a target and then flee effortlessly.

Rogue is Scoundrels Lone Subclass, and it enhances their sneakiness, while also improving their skills by granting you an additional Expertise when they become 3rd level and also at 7th. Later on you gain the ability to dodge spells that affect an area and just ignore damage completely.

The last Warrior subclass we are going to show off is Hero - the subclass between Warrior and Guardian. It uses a special taunting feature to keep enemies from attacking their allies and can also help their allies get out of sticky situations by swapping places with them.

The subclass between Warrior and Scoundrel - Assassin, takes a stealthy approach to dealing its damage. If they are unseen, they can easily take out the competition with Hidden Strike, and can also make sure to remain hidden by Hiding using only 1AP. Later on they can max out their damage rolls!

Next up is Hexblade. Between Warrior and Mageborn, the Hexblade is all about cursing their opponents so that they are far weaker in combat, so that they can swoop in with a spell or weapon attack to crush them. They can also deal a great deal of Psychic damage via their Psychic Ire feature.

Battlemage is the subclass between Warrior and Scribe, meaning it can be achieved by starting as either class. You gain access to spellcasting if you didn't have it already, and can Rally your allies using a magical incantation. Later on your buff spells can also affect you too!

The Lone Subclass of Warrior - Gladiator, specialises in the use of weaponry and can dual-wield weapons that are not made for dual wielding, opening up a great deal of possibilities for weapon choice. They also get access to a Riposte-style attack, and can command people to partake in a duel.

At level 3, you get another important choice - your Subclass! Here you can choose to stick to the core of your class or modify it slightly by moving towards another class. Your Scribe could learn better weapon techniques and become a Battlemage or focus their studies and become a Wizard.

The third step is to think of the character's base class: their Origin. Warrior, Scoundrel, Guardian, Scribe or Mageborn? This choice will have a massive impact on the character's hit points, weapon and armour choices, equipment and their combat playstyles.

The next step might be to think about what your character started out as: it's Background. Did they belong to a criminal organisation? Did they spend their life at sea? Are they an apprentice of some artisan or mage? Or are they an aristocrat searching for adventure?

To make a character, one of your first choices might be to determine the lineage the character comes from. The lineages can work in any setting or world. You can be Adaptable, Graceful, Elemental or any other lineage, which all grant you a baseline of features and a base movement speed.

Daybreak Odyssey is a "D6 system" meaning apart from some special situations, you will only need a handful of D6's for your attacks, spells and checks.

In our next few posts, we will explore the basics of Daybreak, what sets us apart from other popular TTRPG's, and the process for creating a character in our system. To start off, we will look at the Core System.
