there's never going to be a perfect system. A sustainable one in better harmony with the planet would be GREAT. Otherwise we're looking at a crash driven by extreme wealth inequality combined with crazy weather and mass migration, then some dystopian hellscape, and then a rebuilding scenario.

I've never called myself a capitalist. I'm an altruist. But that's not a financial system. Capitalism is fine with ethical boundaries applied. Big government, little government, these systems evolve just like everything else. Ideally, we want to keep pushing them to become more equitable over time

Oh, yeah it's the middle way I'm talking about, but absolutely, cooperation is slightly favorable vs competition in a survival sense. That's why we intuitively revere it as the highest moral value. But competition arises from the need to absorb energy to maintain life. And it can be USED positively

Leaving selfish egos room to compete to CHEAT the system is a HUGE problem, yeah. It's supposed to be a government's job to stop that from happening AND to redistribute resources in equitable ways. People just didn't VOTE for that because all science and altruism folks forgot to get good at SALES

Unregulated capitalism isn't good for the poor OR the wealthy. If we had a system to set ethical boundaries for ambitious brains, we could set them competing to solve the most pressing problems for the greatest good without their dumb selfish egos messing everything up.. but that'll be a big shift

so yes, oxytocin is HIGHLY addictive. Nobody doesn't like cuddles. It's just a matter of trust (and physiology -- WHERE cats like to be touched differ a LOT so you gotta suss that out)

Everyone's on a spectrum. I get them addicted to ME right away and handle them all a lot. They get used to my husband being around :)Their attitudes re: strangers depend on life experiences (positive & negative). Brains can be shifted by fostering trust and boosting confidence but a lot is set young

brains definitely get trained to tell animals apart in context. When human infants are raised around one ethnic group, they often struggle to tell people of other races apart for a WHILE. It's an interesting phenomenon -- one of the brain's ways of taking shortcuts around irrelevancies

hahaha wow. Top L tried to murder a 10 y/old boy. Top middle loves HUGS and announces his intention to do bad behavior with a battle cry. Top R is an 18 y/old semi-feral. Bottom L is a zen surfer catnip addict. Bottom middle is 100% goblin mode🖤. Bottom R is a feline trash compactor (food guy).

Varied histories of traumas for this bunch, so most of them scatter at the sight of a stranger. But yeah, the purpose of work is to subsidize cat food and vet bills and misc supplies, obviously. I do not know these "vacations" of which others speak ;)

it becomes a math problem at a high enough level of abstraction. There are never guarantees that the crow befriended by the dog will have BETTER outcomes, but *statistically* more friends and more DIVERSE friends make you safer :)

Evolution works on SYSTEMS. In pro-social systems, organisms affect each OTHER's survival statistically slanted toward the positive. In storytelling systems, benefits explode. Individual human brains tell THEMSELVES stories - that's where modern culture comes from and why we often get so much wrong

Absolutely. They look nothing alike. I DID once have a pair of siblings who WERE hard to tell apart, but their behavior was so different, that made it simple.
What do you think? Same same?

Competition is how I get my elderly cats to keep eating. It's not a BAD thing at all! FRIENDLY competition makes us ALL better. It's the hateful, zero sum kind of competitiveness that keeps us trapped in anti-social cycles.
We're storytellers -- when we tell TRUE stories? We get better outcomes.

OH, this isn't *everyone* 🙃 just the ones who're willing to share the bed at the same time.
There's no shame in caretaking fewer cats! You have to calibrate according to all the OTHER considerations in your life. I've spent my whole life rescuing to level up to this place. It's not for everyone.

The dinosaur-juice illionaires are going to get MUCH MORE BADLY BEHAVED until we manage to set ethical boundaries on them.
If you thought regulating big business was BAD, no you DIDN'T. Burning the planet is bad.
