this is peripheral to what I intended this thread to be about, but it is part of my general gripe with everything requiring constant updates, even hardware.

(On this topic tho, I fell victim to hx stomp fad and man it’s annoying to use)

They'll also interview friends and family about whether, in their opinion, you're an item.

Yeah, no matter how much advocacy work my comrades do, the "bludger" rhetoric has done soo much fucking damage 😔

The partner income test perpetuates domestic violence. Victims of domestic violence without their own source of income cannot easily flee a violent partner because the perpetrators' incomes are counted in Centrelink's income tests even after the relationship is terminated.

Of course, if you're not a wage earner, you could always create a family trust of somesuch to distribute your income across your dependents so you pay fuck all tax. But then you have to vote for the Nats.

Yep, I made a few posts about this on Reddit. Just received a torrent of abuse saying the system isn't the problem, I am (or my partner is). Sick it up.

Amazing what anti welfare propaganda has done to people's brains.

Abundance is not a serious concept - it’s a vibey idea cloud invented to serve as a recruitment tool for US centrists, to provide the US political class with an alternative narrative to redistribution.

Yeah some urbanist potential but even then there will be winners & losers and the idea of just free money is not useful for political judgement imo. In any case, if we want more urbanism, just talk about urbanism, no need to invest this whole waffly abstraction some seppo bloggers made to sell book

I don’t really get it. It’s just a word. An aesthetic for the literary classes. Real progressive progressive politics is now mostly a zero sum competition with winners and losers and obscuring that feeds delusional thinking (like Starmer doing growth instead of tax).

yeah trump etc, but what have liberals & leftists been doing to expand and protect basic social assistance? it doesn’t even really exist for adults w/o children. I’ve barely even seen this mentioned in US left / liberal discourse. instead it’s all UBI, JG etc. what about doing the baby steps first
