Gamedev 👀
And this is setting aside the fact that they managed to get filthy rich at a time of much easier discoverability. HK released in 2017 along with 7K games. 18K games released last year.

Of course, the game is great and they deserve their success. But one cannot deny that discoverability was easier.

Gamedevs with a very expected game: congratulations!!

Now please, do your fellow devs a favor: announce your release date earlier. It costs you nothing but gives others a chance to exist and survive.

We're in the middle of the worst crisis this industry has ever faced, we're all seeing colleagues and friends losing their jobs, and by simply announcing your game 3 or 6 months before releasing, you could help prevent others from losing their jobs.

And you wouldn't lose any sales in the process.

Setting aside how fucking stressful an indie release is in the first place, teams now spend months carefully planning their marketing with the few resources they have in order to try and exist in the flooded market we all try to live from.

By doing this, you are basically voiding all these efforts.

Y'all aren't selling more games by shadow dropping or almost shadow dropping. You already have millions of wishlists. You will make plenty money.

Give folks a heads up! Let others steer clear of your release without having to reschedule their releases last-minute because you could have your fun.

I believe that typically, big companies dismiss any incoming suggestions for fear of being accused of plagiarism.

One interesting counter-example is Valve, who often "buy" out maps from popular CS:GO (/CS2) and TF2 community maps from independent level designers and then integrate in vanilla games.
