We were all relieved that this didn’t happen on 9/11.

At #newscientistlive, we’re bombarded by ads that say: the climate crisis is terrible; fusion is the answer.

Yes, fusion is the answer, but it’s not happening here on Earth but 8.33 minutes away.

I’m reading Human Nature from the marvelous Dr. Marvel. We share the same sense of humor but she’s much funnier. I’d recommend the book to anyone.

Next to where I’m working in Iceland is a whaling station. They didn’t slaughter any whales this year because the Japanese economy tanked, thanks to Trump’s idiotic actions.

So…Trump saves whales*. 🫠

*He also saved a lot of whales by cancelling offshore wind […]

Even when it’s windy, freezing, and miserable, Iceland looks very beautiful in pictures.

Today is my last day at [C]Worthy, the nonprofit research organization that I co-founded to develop freely available tools for verification of marine CO₂ removal (mCDR). I will not be making any public comments, but I now have opinions about mCDR.

They look bored and unamused, like they're at a faculty meeting.

I met Dr. David Ho!

He’s responsible for the fact that HIV is no longer a death sentence and his work has saved tens of millions of lives. Why he doesn’t have a Nobel Prize is beyond me. AMA.

It’s fun to be back at Columbia, an institution that I was affiliated with for over 30 years, to discuss marine CO₂ removal.

In the US, PM₂.₅ from wildfire smoke already kills about the same number of people as guns and cars (~40k each), but this will increase significantly with climate change. 😐

I went to the American embassy today to get a passport card that I could carry in my wallet to show my citizenship in case masked men try to kidnap me when I’m in the US. Seriously.

I have an old bike jersey whose zipper needs repair. The quote for the repair is more than the cost of a new jersey, but I'm going to repair it because I want to live in a world where we repair things.

For the last year, there's been an encampment by the Thames across the street from the US Embassy to protest the war in Gaza. I didn't realize how clearly you can see it from inside the embassy until today.

Question for #BikeTooter: I’ve had this bike for 15 years but this is the first time I’ve taken it touring. With this setup where I have most of the cargo on the back, would you inflate the rear tire more? If so, by how much more than the front? Thanks.
