I am so tired of living in this grotesque parody of reality.

So I try not to give too many gory details about life with long covid, but I also think it’s important to give a clear picture of what can happen to anyone.

Over the last yearish, I’ve become allergic to more than 70 foods. Today I lost soy. I’m not how long I can keep eating at all.

Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.

I'd never heard of this teaching style before, but after reading this article I can say that it's utterly idiotic.

Every time I read a quote from Florence Pugh, I hear Yelena's voice in my head.

"When I got home for Christmas, I was so depressed and I was like, 'Oh, I think that's from "Midsommar,"' and I didn't deal with it and I probably shouldn't do that again."

This is exactly why I hate the Republican party, So much of their ethos is based on the idea that anyone who needs help is lazy or a crook. The "Welfare Queen" lie is the classic example. It will never change. They will never change. They are loathsome in their superiority and faux piety.
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

Each new excuse I hear from a Democrat on this is more idiotic than the last.
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

But…those are state charges. They were never federally charged. Nor could they be even if we win in 2028 because the statute of limitations will have expired. But okay.

I live with the knowledge that I will at some point be laid off from my job and when that happens, I will almost immediately have no healthcare, no antidepressants and no place to live except with my mother in the house where I grew up.

Fuck Chuck Schumer and every Democrat who votes for this shit.

Reminder that, unless a creative freelancer has a spouse with a day job that offers health insurance, they likely have an ACA plan. And with the hits to creative industries the past few years, I'm guessing many qualify for subsidies.

Related reminder that comic creators are freelancers.
The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting
