2. I still believe the average Aussie sits between the parties - we have moved to the right since Howard.

Do I think most Australians fit somewhere between the two majors? Yes.

Do I think I viable centrist party could disrupt the system? Yes.

Do I think it'll happen? Nah, that sounds like a lot of work!

And to clarify, I'm neither left nor right. I'm a centrist cynic. Every side is flawed.

Problem with the left is they see every issue as a hill to die on.

Also the problem with the Right - they don't.

But when the right's whole aim is "owning the left", the right will always win.

Because the left are busy tearing themselves apart.

This partisanship is how we ended up where we are. Let's accept each other and stop the point scoring. We can do better.

How can you truly understand someone unless you've walked a mile in their shoes (or, at least, heard about their mile walk)?

100% I usually find people with polar opposite opinions and life story than my own are the best people to follow and interact with. Why wouldn't I want to increase my empathic understanding of others?
