I’d love to say we came to welcome HM King to Lichfield, but in truth, we’d just come for the 10:39 to Sutton Coldfield 😂 Well timed! 🙌 He gave us a wave and a smile too - not bad considering we probably look like we’ve been through a hedge backwards 💨😂

All Saints Church, Holbeach, the church where @clementineroseb.bsky.social and I got married 3 years and 6 months ago today ❤️🥰

✨ There is something deeply nourishing in the continuity of the sun rising and the sun setting, and as summer gives way gently to autumn, so the storm clouds of day part to leave a dusky evening sky.

Many will soon lament its passing, as summer gives way reluctantly to winter, yet in her silver lining, we find some of the most beautiful sunsets of the year.

Two new genealogy books to help with @ihgs.bsky.social migration assignments (God bless World of Books!)

Determined to get this @ihgs.bsky.social assignment finished before the end of the month! I hope I don’t encounter many more Latin parish registers 😂

Breaking out the heavyweights tonight! 📚

Is it just me who looks out for books which mention ancestors (and buys them)? 😂 This was a good find at @scarthinbooks.bsky.social this afternoon! Best £4 spent this holiday! 😂

St Mark’s Churchyard, Cromford. The church was built as a chapel of ease in 1877 and demolished in the 1970s. The churchyard remains with a large grassy mound where presumably the church stood. The lychgate remains.

Glorious blue skies and sunshine as we walked down the Derwent Valley to Cromford this morning.

A rare opportunity to look today in the Arkwright family church, St Mary’s, Cromford. Originally planned as a chapel for Willersley Castle by Sir Richard Arkwright, the church was completed after his death in 1797. The wall paintings are by A.O. Hemming to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee.

How blessed we’ve been to have had two glorious spring-like days here in #Lichfield.

Does anyone know if there’s a significance in gravestones of this shape/design? Clearly an anchor top-left.

🌿 @clementineroseb.bsky.social and I had a lovely day out to Stratford-upon-Avon today. Far too much to see in just a few hours, but the sun shone (eventually) and we managed to successfully resist the urge to buy everything in Shakespeare form!

Whilst on the face of it, much of this stuff might seem very obvious, I’m finding this Advanced @pharostutors.bsky.social course on researching online quite thought-provoking.

Thrilled that “A Blessing of Light” has been accepted in the call for scores for the 2025 London Festival of Contemporary Church Music. The piece will now be circulated to our participating churches and concert performers for inclusion in their performances during the Festival period.

It really was a gorgeous sunset yesterday - the same in Matlock Bath ✨

Today I reflect on the many people who've been part of my journey, not just in 2024, but over the past 41 years. With much gratitude if you're reading this, then you’re one of them. Whatever has been, and whatever is to come, as we travel from the old to the new, I wish you all a very Happy New Year

For some reason, it wouldn’t let me post this yesterday, but nevertheless…

Sending you all my warmest greetings for a very Happy Christmas: to my students and their families; teacher colleagues; friends and followers; and indeed, all the wonderful people who bring such joy to this online community.

Here is the annual reveal of the Christmas Cake, and for the first time ever, I opted for a glazed nut topping rather than icing!
