Yeah, no. I graduated from college in the late 1970s. It was very common in big cities to room with two or three other roommates in an old house. In DC, MD and VA, there were lots of such “group houses.” Made renting affordable.

I had just gotten my first newspaper reporting job in April 1981. Fully expected to be laid off because advertising plummeted. But I hung around and by 1984, things were looking up. Unemployment was only 7.2% and inflation a mere 5%. We’re spoiled now.
