Charles W. Herbster Posts About Reels Photos Here in Nebraska, voters approved a ballot measure legalizing medical cannabis in 2024 with 71% of the vote (637,126 votes). That is 11 percentage points more than Governor Jim Pillen (59.9% - 394,892 votes) received when he was elected in 2022. One person who clearly did not get the message is our governor. Governor Jim Pillen has done everything he can to delay and dismantle the voter-enacted medical cannabis statutes. He has restricted medical cannabis regulations so much that it will be difficult for those in need to find relief. Additionally, Pillen appointed two longtime opponents of medical cannabis to the commission tasked with implementing the voter-enacted statutes. Governor Pillen has said that Nebraskans did not understand what they were voting for. After speaking with Nebraskans on the issue, I can tell you they did know what they were voting for. To say otherwise is an insult to the 637,126 voters who helped pass the ballot initiative into law. For reference, that is 242,234 more votes than the Governor received when he was elected. Due to recent events, I need to set the record straight. A recent article states that members of the City of Omaha's LGBTQ+ Advisory Board were consulted on the mayor's anti-trans advertisement before it aired. That is absolutely not true in my case. I was never consulted. I was never informed. I did not have any conversations with the mayor or her office about this ad. Yes, I serve on the advisory board, but this does not reflect the values I hold or the work I am here to do. I've proudly served on this board for the past four years. In that time, the mayor has never attended a single meeting. In fact, l've never even met her. I joined this committee to serve as a liaison between the LGBTQ+ community and city leadership-to raise concerns, offer insight, and advocate for equity when LGBTQ+ topics arise. I did not join to be used as a political shield for harmful messaging that puts our community at risk. As a Black queer woman, I understand what it means to live at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities. There is nothing I'm more passionate about than protecting, celebrating, and uplifting our LGBTQ+ community-especially our trans siblings who are too often targeted and dehumanized. This kind of messaging is harmful, divisive, and wrong. Our trans community deserves to feel safe, valued, and affirmed. I will always do my part to make sure that happens. We all deserve better than this.

I'll leave the person's name off of this but a former member of that advisory board says this claim isn't true and I trust them a hell of a lot more than I trust Stothert.
I could make a very long post about this but suffice it to say that although Jean has done some things that have made a difference for the LGBTQ+ Community she still seems to be okay with throwing parts of the community under the bus. And yes I am intimately aware that is her track record. I received numerous messages about the nasty campaign ads and mailers that have been sent out. Some paid for by her campaign and others paid for by a nasty PAC that just plays dirty! Yes, I used to serve on the mayor’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Council. I resigned many months ago for a variety of reasons. I have it on good authority that the current members of the council had NO IDEA about the ads being run by the campaign despite the rumor mill that started a pack of lies about it. And it should come as no surprise that the person or people who started the rumor want to remain nameless and in the shadows! What the F*CK happened to gathering facts before making judgements? I am deeply appreciative that the Rainbow Parents of Nebraska did do their due diligence and when they saw my name on the list they knew better than to assume I had anything to do with the shenanigans of Jean, her campaign or the PAC responsible for the BS! WE NEED TO VOTE JEAN OUT! And that means if you’re registered to vote you need to show up and vote for Ewing as though our lives depended on it because they absolutely do! I am EXHAUSTED by these attacks and this harmful, hateful rhetoric and lies!

It certainly *sounds like* the Mayor 1) admitted that she consulted what is ostensibly an advisory board in her official capacity as Mayor on a campaign ad, and 2) kind of threw the members of that advisory board under the bus by implying they approved its content.
Stothert, who frequently says she is “mayor for all of Omaha,” said she did not think the ad risked turning off some of her supporters. She said she has a good relationship with Omaha’s LGBT community and consulted with members of the city’s LGBT advisory board on its content before putting out the ad.
