I write about antisemitism. Latest book: Everyday Hate: How Antisemitism Is Built Into Our World & How You Can Change It.

X/Twitter at @daverich1, but maybe not for much longer. Substack at 'Everyday Hate'.
Striking how similar the sentiments - and even exact wording - is on this Hamas banner to the placards and chants on protests in the UK. “Nazi Zionism”, victory to the resistance, etc. Different parts of the same movement.

Time to get rid of that blue tick on my X account.

Including Jews in ethnicity-based monitoring was one of the recommendations I made in Everyday Hate - we can't tackle antisemitism if we don't measure it properly.

So much misogyny in one comment. Maybe “middle class women of a certain age” have more agency to complain, especially on Celebrity Masterchef where - unlike regular Masterchef - they are less likely to fear risking their dreams if they speak up, and are more likely to know who to complain to in TV.

I find these complaints baffling. The amount of mainstream media coverage of Gaza is off the scale compared to, say, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, or any conflict outside Europe.

It is remarkable that the BBC has deemed this to be an apology. He hasn't apologised to the Jewish couple hounded out of his show - he just regrets that *everyone else* was disturbed by it (at least, that's how it reads to me).

When people tell me the police have a double standard in how they deal with antisemitism, I always say: have you seen how badly they cope with just doing basic policing?

Two weeks of the whole country going on about how racism is evil and everyone is valued, and what do we get? Audiences laughing at antisemitic jokes on the BBC & at the Edinburgh festival.

It's not exactly in keeping with the new anti-racist spirit, is it?
