Older but not necessarily wiser.
Phil Thompson nearly ran me over and Sammy Lee told me I look like Eric Clapton. Not sure which was worse.
Once complimented on my beard by Jeremy Corbyn.
Would put cauliflower and Mick Hucknall into Room 101.
295/365 Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye 'Diana & Marvin'

A total free hit, this, and a welcome one after whatever Throbbing Gristle was.
It's fantastic, obviously, and I'm going to make it my mission in life to get a jumper like the one Marvin's wearing on the cover.

294/365 Throbbing Gristle ’20 Jazz Funk Greats’

This one was always a risk. I feel I should apologise to @thecenci.bsky.social for it.
As titles go, ’42 Minutes You’ll Never Get Back’ would also work, and it's more accurate.
I can cope with weird and experimental, but I just don’t get this, at all.

293/365 Example ‘Playing In The Shadows’

Another one where I knew the name but never listened to.
Again there were some tracks that reminded me of unenjoyable nights in bad clubs, but overall alright.
Not going to sign up for the pre-sale for tour tickets, but might give another album a go.

292/365 Sweet 'Desolation Boulevard'

Some glam stuff has aged terribly, some still sounds great today. This is in the latter group, thankfully.
Riffs that some modern bands would kill for, and huge choruses. Proof that quality is timeless.
Drum solos on record are even worse than live ones though.

291/365 Spain 'The Blue Moods Of Spain'

Legend has it that when Rick Rubin heard this, he bought 30 copies to give to friends.
It's an interesting one. Parts are beautiful, and musically it's very good, but it's also slow, and GOD it drags.
I'd love to hear a sped up version that only lasts 40mins.

290/365 Björk 'Post'

I still find her an acquired taste vocally, but one thing you can never say about her is that she's boring.
Also, the more I read about her, the more I like her.
As for the album, it's absolutely fantastic. All over the place musically, and all the better for it.
Big thumbs up.

289/365 Heaven 17 'The Luxury Gap'

The main issue I find with a lot of electronic music, particularly from this period, is that it can feel a bit mechanical and cold. This manages to avoid that, but it's hard to explain why.
'Feelings', innit?
Anyway, I quite liked it, and might play it again now.

288/365 Stereo MCs 'Connected'

When I was 16, me and my mate got a coach to see Iron Maiden. These were playing on the same night so the same coach did both gigs.
16 y/o me thought their music might be crap but their fans seemed sound enough.
Now think I was a bit harsh. Quite listenable actually.

287/365 Public Enemy ‘Black Sky Over The Projects: Apartment 2025’

It's not, never has been, and never will be my genre of choice, but I do love a bit of Public Enemy.
This is an absolute beast of an album. Up there with my favourites from all we've done so far, and we're almost 300 in. Brilliant.
November 2, 2025 at 1:02 PM
286/365 Sam Fender 'People Watching'

I love a good 'story' song, and he's got loads of them. The Springsteen conparison is used a lot, and with good reason.
Another one who, I don't think I've ever heard a song of his that I didn't like, and I should probably listen to him more.
November 1, 2025 at 3:29 PM
285/365 The Boo Radleys ‘Giant Steps’

A proper album, this. All very varied, with a lot of different styles on it, but at the same time it all works together.
Saw a review that compared it to the White Album and while I wouldn't go that far, I know what they meant.
Definitely one to revisit.

284/365 BC Camplight 'A Sober Conversation'

Absolutely no idea where I heard about this one. A review in a magazine, a mention on a podcast, a recommendation from someone...not a clue.
Wherever it was, I'm glad I did.
Great songs, not an easy listen but a rewarding one.
October 30, 2025 at 5:59 PM
283/365 Enya 'Watermark'

Wheeling out the big guns now.
I thought it would be all pan pipes and wind chimes but it's actually quite musical, with proper songs and everything.
I doubt we'll see her at Reading festival any time soon, and I can't imagine ever playing it again, but it's not horrific.
October 29, 2025 at 3:10 PM
282/365 The Pretenders 'Last Of The Independents'

Another band that I've never really listened to much, other than the singles.
Always liked Chrissie Hynde though. Reckon she'd be brilliant on a night out, as long as you didn't suggest going for a kebab.
As for the album, it flew by. Great stuff.
October 28, 2025 at 7:21 PM
281/365 Leonard Cohen ‘Dear Heather’

How’s that for going from one extreme to the other?
He’s an acquired taste as a vocalist. Note, vocalist, not singer.
I doubt he’d make it through an audition with Simon Cowell, but given the choice of him and a pop puppet I know who I’d rather listen to.
October 27, 2025 at 11:20 AM
280/365 Descendents ‘Milo Goes To College’

Once upon a time these might've been my favourite band. If I’d heard this when I was 15, I’d have played it continuously.
Unfortunately I’m not 15 anymore.
Quite hit and miss, and there were as many bits of it that I didn't like as there were bits I did.
October 27, 2025 at 9:18 AM
279/365 Janis Joplin 'Pearl'

About as much of a free hit as it gets. Knew a few of the songs and there was no way I wasn't going to like it - it's just that, for some reason, I'd never listened to it all before.
Exactly as I expected - utterly brilliant, and should've done it years ago.
October 26, 2025 at 7:35 AM
278/375 The Lemonheads 'Love Chant'

Changing album release day from Monday to Friday was a great idea.
The arrival of an album you've been looking forward to should be celebratory, and that is *not* a Monday thing.
It's nearly the weekend, the sun's out, and so is the new Lemonheads album.
Bliss.

277/365 Broadcast ‘The Noise Made By People’

Based on the cover, I used to think this was the soundtrack to a film I hadn't heard of.
Now I read that they wanted to make "the soundtrack to a film that doesn't exist".
It's nostalgic and up to date at the same time, and it's 25 years old.
Loved it.
October 24, 2025 at 7:31 AM
276/365 Abba 'Arrival'

Given that compilations don't count, I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever sat and listened to one of their albums. The ultimate singles band, maybe?
Perfect on album too, if this is anything to go by.
Rolling Stone slated it on release, because of course they did.
October 22, 2025 at 9:09 AM
275/365 Hazel O'Connor 'Breaking Glass (Soundtrack)'

I don't know the film at all but recognise the album as one that's always been there in the racks for as long as I've been going into record shops.
Now that I've finally heard it I wish I'd listened to it before now, because I really liked this.
October 21, 2025 at 2:10 PM
274/365 Gene Clark 'No Other'

I recognised a few here, but I've absolutely no idea when or where I would have heard them.
Yet more proof that record companies and reviewers are wrong a lot of the time, as this wasn't well received on release but is now viewed as a bit of a classic.
And rightly so.
October 21, 2025 at 1:05 PM
273/365 Earth Wind & Fire 'I Am'

I remember Crowded House's greatest hits having the advert slogan that you know more of their songs than you think you do.
Same could be said here. A lot of songs that you can't help but have heard if you've been to a party with a DJ in the last 40 years.
Liked it.
October 21, 2025 at 9:20 AM
272/365 The Blue Nile 'Hats'

It's another definite 'mood' album, this one. I'm listening to it while wearing a Fear Factory tshirt and it's not one I'd be likely to put on while on the way to one of their gigs.
It is, though, an absolutely glorious listen. Fully deserves the esteem it's held in.
October 20, 2025 at 3:39 PM
271/365 Simple Minds 'New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)'

Other than a few of the obvious singles, I've never really bothered with these.
No particular reason, just never felt the need to, similar to why I've never learned the banjo or watched Independence Day.
Anyway, quite liked this. A good listen.
