Exploring New Orleans for a few days before Bouchercon starts on Wednesday. While I used to come here a lot in my youth it’s been almost 20 years since my last trip and I’m absolutely seeing the impact tourism has had here. A lot of places I used to explore are gone or tour-only accessible now.

Walked from Waverley Cemetery to Bondi Beach today, stopping when I felt like to work on the book. Not a bad day of writing and exploring Australia. #amwriting

16 more hours to go until I get to Sydney, which if you’ve never gone is really fantastic- and really f’ing far if you’re coming from Atlanta.

Since I’ll be in Australia next Sunday, Stacey and Abby setup an early Father’s Day for me today- totally spoiling me with presents, relaxation, and dinner from my favorite restaurant. But the greatest gift of all (besides the two of them) was Stacey made my annual helping of banana pancakes.

Well today’s fortune cookie was a lot better than last week’s “don’t panic.” I just hope it’s a good sign that the week long writing-retreat I’m going on later this month will go well.

This was my fortune cookie at lunch which was appropriate considering that I’ve had to deal with a tire with a nail in it, the shelves of the master closet falling off the wall, jamming the door shut, and now the power is flickering on/off. It’s been that kind of day.

It is kind of cool to be able to sit on your hotel room balcony and watch giant container-ships float past at midnight. This one was the MSC Mumbai VIII, and it was about as tall as our eight-story hotel.

Pretty awesome Saturday filled with bookstore cats, seafood, and beach walks in Savannah with the kiddo. I even snuck in an hour of research for my novel.

One more cheesesteak before I head to the airport later. This time with Cheese-Wiz (aka the superior choice for cheesesteaks).
April 27, 2025 at 5:10 PM
All checked out. I don’t have to head to the airport until late afternoon so my plan is to just wander Philadelphia aimlessly, seeing what I see.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds put on an amazing show. I can’t believe how mind blowing they were live. They actually interact with their audience and seem like they are having a lot of fun playing together. Well worth the weekend trip up to Philly!

Like I was going to come to Philadelphia and not do the whole “Rocky Steps,” run. They’ve added a statue back at the top of the steps to the museum courtesy of Sylvester Stallone himself.

Mmmmm, cheesesteak done right which is almost impossible to find back home in ATL.

Christ Church Burial Ground, final resting place of Benjamin Franklin and several signers of the Declaration of Independence (and one safe cracker...). I do enjoy an old, gloomy cemetery.
April 26, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Note to self- wearing a t-shirt that reads “enjoy every sandwich” when flying to Philadelphia leads to people thinking you’re on a cheesesteak tour. They will not get the Warren Zevon reference. The more you know…

After a really shitty week at work I’m off to Philly to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds play The Met. It’s the closest to Atlanta they come and who knows when they’ll tour America again. We’re not exactly the most welcoming place at the moment...

The kiddo and I drove up to Nashville tonight from Atlanta so she can see on of her favorites, @officialjackwhite play tomorrow night. That said, I think our rocker-kid might be having an allergic reaction to all the country music. She is not into the boot-scoot boogie…

“Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it. Don’t wait for it. Just let it happen.” Agent Dale Cooper was talking about coffee when he said that but in my case it’s a very awesome @officialwarrenzevon box set which completes my collection #vinyl #vinylrecord #vinylcollection

I was trying to find somewhere near water for my writing retreat this summer and honestly the hotel rates along the Gulf of Mexico or the Carolina coast were all insane. So that’s how I ended up booking a ticket to Sydney, Australia for this June. #writer

Our #recordstoreday haul so far. I’m still on the hunt for the Warren Zevon box set so I can finally have “Learning To Flinch” on vinyl but over all I found most of what we wanted, and replaced my worn out copy of Hindu Love Gods. #vinyl #vinylrecord #vinylcollection #rsd #rsd2025

I might be the only person who truly loves Willie Nelson’s reggae album, but I don’t care- it’s awesome and if you don’t like it, tough. Also this track title pretty much says exactly what a lot of us are feeling thanks to the current condition we’re in.

If an employee in the private sector uses an unauthorized tool to share sensitive data, even with authorized individuals, odds are pretty good they are going to be fired if found out. Hegseth and friends are dealing with life and death situations- shouldn’t they be held to an even higher standard?

Took Stacey and Abby to see Deftones tonight. It was a great show but OMG the food at State Farm Arena is too damn expensive. $89 to feed three people Chick-fil-A (and that’s with a single order of fries to share).

There are few things in life that I think of as necessary, great coffee being one of them. And so I am very excited to try out our new grinder and coffee maker tomorrow morning. Like freakishly so. Seriously, is it coffee time yet?

It’s official, I’ll be returning to New Orleans for the first time in a very, very long time this September to attend Bouchercon 2025 (all this crime writer stuff is really just a cover for my ongoing quest to solve the mystery of the Rue-Ga-Rue). #writing #writingcommunity #author #crimewriter
