Helping run junior cricket since 2016.
Thought this article was interesting. I think this is the 1st time I have heard this explanation - that bat makers are drying the wood more than in the past, and that is why bats are "bigger" these days - at least in terms of volume of wood, if not mass.

Dear cricket hive mind. Does anyone have any idea how the "R/W (Runs / wicket differential)" figure is calculated in Play Cricket. I can't make head nor tail of it. I've also tried asking Google Gemini if it can figure it out, based on my spreadsheet, but it was also stumped.

List of test openers who have played at least 10 innings over the last 3 years, ordered by average. Aggregate average of all openers over this period is 32.

I'm watching the Major League Cricket livestream of a match in the Oakland A's stadium. If the USA can hold cricket in a baseball stadium, why not Japan?

The junior figures are surprisingly disappointing, though. (These don't go back to earlier years, as far as I'm aware.)

Sport England have published 2023-24 data on participation in sport. I've added the senior participation figure to my graph. As ever, it's a weird metric, but at least it's reasonably robust and consistent over a long period of time. Seems to be going in the right direction. Good to see.

No live Eng games but more women's Hundred. I'll take that.

My son, as part of the Japan U19s, has just qualified for the 2026 World Cup. Amazing achievement by players, coaches, back room staff and everyone who volunteers to run club cricket in Japan.

Women's football World Cup is expanding to 32, then 48 teams. Men's T20 world cup currently includes just 20. Rubbish. Spread the love. Grow the game.

Wondering if the reason the Hundred sale has taken so many months is mainly to allow bidders enough time to log into the ECB's systems.

Interesting to see the slips pointing to the ball that Pant skied to long leg. Is that standard practice in the pro game now? I imagine it will sometimes help the catcher to pick out a ball that they could otherwise have missed. Should we be teaching kids to do this in amateur cricket?

I'm the nerdiest of cricket nerds, involved in running a club since 2016 and I'm nearly 50, and even I had no idea that this even existed. LMAO that people are up in arms at funding being reallocated to something more fruitful.

How about massively increasing the prize money for the men while only increasing the women's prize money a little bit?

But how high up this list can he go?

But by same logic, put the fast bowler on at the other end and he'll have an improved average...no?

Japan teams are likely to feature regularly in the Asia Cup, which now has a broadcast deal through to 2031 covering all key cricket counties across Asia and Europe. Great time to partner with a rapidly rising cricket nation.

Bangladesh have won the U19 Asia Cup two years running. Looked to me like the strongest team throughout. Amazing strength in depth, given it must have been a changed line-up.

🚨Proud dad alert. Cook Jr making international debut for Japan U19s today. Took a couple of catches and Japan did really well in the field, restricting Pakistan to 244. That's the lowest number of runs Japan have conceded to an ICC full member. Future is bright for this team.

Anyone know what this means for me wanting to watch from the UK (assuming it'll no longer be in YouTube)?

Is Sony Sports Network a thing that I can subscribe to? Is SonyLIV the same thing?
