Dork. Except when too busy being a doofus.
Also, sometimes I go outside and pay attention to things.
Yes to the head protection! I could hear him shouting his warnings at me from the trees while I was outside yesterday. As the threats came closer and closer, I realized how vulnerable my head was. 🤣

Actually ... he started patrolling the feeders earlier this week. He kept showing up later in the day, though, after I'd posted the day's FBOMD news. 😆Yesterday was HIS day.

Cheerleader jackdaw?

Dove for #FirstBirdOfMyDay here, too, of the mourning variety, doing the usual thing: waiting for me to hang the bird feeders, but flying away when I come outside to do so.

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: White-throated sparrow foraging in the fallen leaves

I can just picture it!

Because an entire day's rain wasn't wet enough, #FirstBirdOfMyDay was a white-throated sparrow splashing in the birdbath.

👍The house sparrows crowd the feeders pretty much all day during the winter. But they are rarely first, and never last.
November 21, 2025 at 6:02 PM
I saw only one other bird the whole day -- a northern cardinal, always the last at the feeders, always eating sunflower seeds exclusively until about 20 minutes after sunset.

The situation in the U.S. is like this century's second pandemic, it seems, infecting every other country that comes into contact with our "leadership."

🧐 Yet it is not one I've had as a first bird since late summer/early fall ... hmm. A few year-round birds only visit my feeders during winter, so there's still hope! 😄
