You said “every time I saw Avery in sit-downs, et al... dude came across strange.” This didn’t seem wildly positive to me. I’ve watched at least 30 interviews he’s done and only the Shatner interview has unexpected responses — so are you sure it’s every sit-down or just the one?

If you haven’t already you should pick up the Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko. Mr. Avery Brooks put seven years into that character and I made sure the most important parts were reflected in the book!

No worries, that’s what Trek is about — understanding through communication! 🖖🏾🙂👍🏾

Thanks for the civil discussion! 🖖🏾

I also enjoyed that section of the documentary. At conventions and other interviews Mr. Brooks has never been one to “do as expected” and always freely speaks his mind. I personally believe that’s we’re seeing in that interview.

You didn’t, but people do cite this single interview to try to support weird claims about the man. Back on topic — he wasn’t high, and to suggest a professional at his level would be irresponsible enough to do so is ridiculous and leans into a derogatory stereotype.

I’ve seen the interview (the only interview brought up to say Mr. Brooks is weird or worse). It’s certainly not straight forward like most may want — but Avery does answer the questions asked — just in his own way. I’ve watched interviews with Jazz musicians that had a similar communication style.

You didn't, ironically that was @jazzbo763.bsky.social and its great you didn't think that but that doesn't mean the stereotype doesn't exist. As for the third, one of the beautiful things about Trek is it teaches us that perspective can show us the distinction between strange and different.

He was so good in that! Episodes are on Youtube!

Mr Brooks was not high during interviews.

I’ve ever heard anyone suggest that anyone in Trek before was “high” and to say it about a black actor feels at best stereotypical. Watch interviews with Jazz musicians like Miles Davis or Coltrane and you’ll understand this is how they communicate.
