I grew up in Buffalo NY which is basically just "what if St Paul but more snow" and people there are way more willing to walk places than they are here.

they even did curb-level bike lanes by the always-busy Somali mall by 10th Ave to try and reduce driver-cyclist conflict zones! it's slick as hell!

the city is planning similar upgrades on 9th and 10th downtown which means nearly all the worst parts of my commute will likely be protected bike lanes by next year
