This trend is incredibly depressing. In the 2010s, large parts of the left were optimistically talking about automation. But then everyone got degrowth, anti-tech brainworms.

You gotta pitch a bright vision for the future to win, not just condemn everything.
feels like red tribe is getting AI in the culture war divorce, which is weird

could be wrong on this. but I’m picking up strong signals that anti-AI sentiment is being coalesced into the omnicause

a consequence of open protocols is anyone can scrape. a consequence of a closed protocol is that only the regime approved people can scrape your data. maybe that's better if you trust the regime, but a closed system with bad actors you disagree with running the show seems uniformly worse to me.
open protocols also means a person tied to the government can't use the platform as a closed garden of government pro-regime propaganda because people can pack up their data and go to a new PDS.

istg people don't want solutions to the problems they're fleeing, because solutions have trade-offs

you may not like it, but the price of open protocols is having your shit scraped. i've had blog posts i put months into scraped from my website and rehosted with ads by SEO bots for years. there's nothing you can do. best to get used to it.
