🧵 "Riotous Life" is an interesting technical experiment, repeating the use of a three panel page layout for it's whole story. I don't think that it reaches it's full artistic potential, but it's still quite good and creative in some places.

🧵 Gonna try to keep this brisk and spoiler free as much as possible. With that said, God what an ending. I was really trying to wrap my head around how a single issue could tie everything together succinctly and satisfyingly, and I have my thoughts

🧵 Gifts of The Night's third issue successfully pulls off a number of climactic turns. Mini-series format being what it is, there can be a unique struggle to fitting everything in properly, but by this issue everything feels very carefully measured
(Out this very month in 1989, “Crime & Punishment: Marshal Law Takes Manhattan”, with its cover by Kevin O’Neill.)
And so to bed. Sleep well, gentle sentients of Planet Earth.

🧵 Issue 2 of Gifts of The Night runs with cementing a status quo established in the previous issue in terms of tone, plot, style and storytelling and keeps the ball rolling with a great followup issue. It really feels like it found it's footing.

🧵 So I've decided I'm going to try covering Gifts of The Night here for a change, one of Paul Chadwick's other works with artist John Bolton. Let me just say, I am quite astonished by how different it is and how much there is to talk about.

While this is an account dedicated to Concrete, I wanted to highlight another work of Paul Chadwick's I recently picked up. Gifts of The Night is a collaboration between him and John Bolton for Vertigo. I may talk more about it anyone wants.

Gonna keep it short since "Steel Rain" is as brisk as it is, but I like the way it explores the relationship between Concrete's beliefs and the environment around him in a way that isn't strictly speaking ecocentric. I love his newfound agency.

🧵 For as small as "Objects of Value" is, it manages to make a sharp and pretty tragic point about the challenges involved with getting people interested in environmentalism. I really like how that subtext is built into a pretty pedestrian story.

🧵I wanted to preface the way I talked about "A Billion Conscious Acts" by referencing a comedic quote from former internet animator Zach Hadel, but by the time I finished reading this short story I came out of it with a very developed opinion.

🧵 I've chosen to refrain from using phrases like "ahead of it's time" when describing the contents of "Think Like A Mountain" because tragically alot of the environmentalist commentary present within is perennially relevant.
