I remember learning the proof for it in calculus. At the time it felt like a hand-wavy trick of the numbers that it happened to work out that way.

Yeah, it's kind of weirdly templated, and the deal-damage-as-toughness effect is common enough that it's an easy misreading to make!

Are you also someone whose brain snags on aligned spaces in text when reading? It's worst for me when there's a bunch of them stacked vertically but it happens with some diagonal strings of spaces too.
