On the other site, Studio Ghibli-style AI output is going viral and allow me to just say it is profoundly depressing to see that stuff being used to promote OpenAI's latest product. Miyazaki famously called AI-produced art "an insult to life itself"—and this in turn is an insult to him.

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

The amount of influence he has on me as a person is beyond anything I can muster up rn. I am just beyond grateful to him for existing and sharing his mind with the world and ushering a style that has influenced so many artists and connected with countless people. RIP David Lynch ❤️
