I couldn’t get into PE2 either, then I recently heard it praised on a retro podcast and wondered if I needed to try again. Now I’m leaning to no again, but hells yeah I’d replay the first one any time.

Thanks! I’ve played all of them but I don’t think ever finished them except Wild Arms 2. I guess I don’t have to be in a rush to part with them all.

Awesome episode, I'm so glad you put this out. I find myself often thinking back to roughly that same time, when I was hella depressed and living with nary a piece of furniture, but dammit I had a PS1 hooked up to my VCR-TV combo and my memories of that time are quite fond now.

And you did it all without cancer. (Hopefully.)

The Anthropic settlement makes it a must-do going forward.

I have that same one! Some books just hit better as an old paperback.

Wow, you get an actual letter? That's so ... official and awesome.

Okay, that's a stronger effect that what I was imagining.

All the things that AI does are from patterns it locked onto in its data. So they’ll be there in human writing, just not as frequently or exaggerated or poorly executed. Maybe the writer was tired at that point and patterned cliche writing took over for a time?

The ChatGPT book covers are the real starting point. From there, you'd better prove humanity immediately, which (based on the free preview of this book only, admittedly a small sample but with enough to make me suspicious of AI use and nothing to say only a human would do that) this book fails.

Dammit, I got confused with Abraham's urban fantasy pen name. Turns out it's something completely different. Doh.

I question the legitimacy of many of the reviews. There are certain patterns to them, and the overall score is suspiciously high for the number of ratings. It's not remotely the kind of book that would skew that strongly naturally.

I don't know the language but I understand this completely.

I know, I'm just playing off the fact that Daniel Abraham is 1.5 of them.

Corey, Carey, what’s the difference, right?

Just remember: it's i before e, except after ... well fuck.
