She lifted the back of her hair and her hand touched the nape of Amity’s neck. It felt… amazing. Amity knew she wanted more of it and Luz maybe didn’t, or she did. Amity found herself standing without remembering doing it.

“Gotta go!” she blurted and ran off. Luz couldn’t like her also, could she?

“Yeah. What is it?” Amity leaned back and Luz’s relaxed visibly.

“It’s lavender scented. I—I guess I wanted it to smell like your hair looked.”

“No. I smell something… floral? I don’t know what it is?” She leaned in closer to Luz. It was her hair. The floral smell was Luz’s hair.

“Oh! I used some of the last of my human shampoo last night. Maybe you can smell that?” Now Luz’s face was red and not just pink.

A strange odor caught Amity’s attention and she sniffed, trying to figure it out.

“Oh no! Do I smell bad?” Luz lifted her arms to smell her armpits. Amity had no idea why. Do human armpits smell? Maybe Gus would know.

Amity carefully pretended that nothing had happened the day before.

“I like it. I said it yesterday and meant it.” Luz’s face seemed pinker than normal, but she didn’t look up, so Amity couldn’t read her expression more than that. She also seemed to be pretending nothing had happened.
