These executive orders on banning federally funded entities from recognizing trans people or disallowing them from using the bathroom are not self-executing or immediately enforceable. They require formal rule making at a minimum. They are a scare tactic. Ignore and do not comply in advance.

I’m seeing a lot of confusion about the Equal Rights Amendment online.

I've been working on the ERA for 13 years & literally wrote a book about it.

So, let me help answer some questions.

1) Yes, it really is a real amendment & fully part of the U.S. Constitution. Full stop.

Love that this syllabus on legal studies of white supremacy includes musical selections for most weeks.
I taught a course called Legal Tools of White Supremacy last year focusing on the US and South Africa. Most students had heard of apartheid and Mandela but not much more. They were also really struck, and transformed, by the parallels with the US.

If you want to investigate police unions, overtime scams are usually a good place to start. NYPD ran the same #CollarsForDollars scam during the Stop & Frisk era — arrest people of color near quitting time & rack up HUGE overtime pay while slowly “processing” them. Taxpayers bilked for billions!

This graph is stunning. Yellow are number of NYPD car chases, blue the number of people injured by those chases.

I know correlation does not always imply causation, but… man. Both those trends really change w Adams’ arrival.

@davulis.bsky.social is always so good about transparency around this critical issue. So: 1) Female academics - send your book pitches to editors. Please! 2) And just as importantly, senior women stay on task with promoting the excellent work of your junior female colleagues to book editors.
There are still a few weeks left in the year (though December is generally a quiet month for book proposals), but it looks like I’m going to close out 2024 with around 80% of total book proposals coming from men, 18% from women, and 2% from persons whose gender was not apparent/obvious.
