The recent NBER report suggests the Treasury’s 2016 analysis – slammed by Brexiters as a ‘hoax’– actually understated the impact of Brexit

Funny how @zackpolanski.bsky.social suggesting a raft of policies to try and improve the lives of the vast majority is ‘fantasy economics’, but when Brexiteers were allowed to indulge their lunatic fantasies about leaving the EU it somehow became ‘The Will of the People’. 🦄🤔

It’s not for the sake of “tradition”, it’s for the sake of democracy - trial by peers is a right of democratic tax-paying citizens.
The lack of policing, short sentences and lack of prison space should be fixed first, surely? Little point of faster time to court if there’s no space in prisons, & most crimes aren’t even deemed worthy of the police even showing up. “Here’s your crime number sir, run along now…”

In 1968 Finland banned for profit education, the few private schools that exist in Finland have to reinvest any profit they make or pay it back to parents.

It has been in the Top 3 in education for the last 20 years.

There should be no profit in education or healthcare.

Shouldn’t Farage face a sleaze probe for that house his missus brought for him for “tax reasons”? Or for being on Putin’s payroll 🤷🏻‍♂️
How can you possibly run a country when newspapers make up stuff and put it on front pages as if they didn't invent it in the first place, and people believe it.
And then we'll get Farage whose every fuck ups will be painted as triumphs.

Big Oil is "wildly desperate to dodge the growing array of lawsuits over the damage caused by their decades-long scheme to deceive the public about climate change," writes @aaronregunberg.bsky.social.

The fossil fuel industry is again urging the Supreme Court to help them escape accountability.
The Supreme Court’s Ethics Code Is a Joke. Big Oil Knows That.
Oil companies want the Supreme Court to intervene to dismiss lawsuits about climate change. Amy Coney Barrett and Samuel Alito both have big conflicts of interest on that front.

Absolutely 100% this.

Hard rejoin asap.
From an Aussie point of view, I would suggest the UK:

1. Rejoin the EU asap.
2. Ditch the Pound and adopt the Euro
3. Ditch all remaining imperial measurements and go fully metric

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

Farage rarely turned up to vote when he was an MEP.

But, he did turn up to vote against the EU’s anti-Russia interference motion.

He said it was a “hoax”.

He voted against strengthening Europe’s defences against foreign interference.

Why?

Good morning.

Gonna have a pop at multi-millionaire Dicky Tice this morning.

The same Dicky Tice that hates foreigners in our country, hates muslims, is an MP for Boston & Skegness but lives in Dubai under SHARIA LAW!

Having a pop at children wearing ear defenders because he's a class 1 knobhead.

Britain has a secrecy problem.

In 2024, the govt answered just 29% of Freedom of Information requests - the lowest rate since FOI began.

Secrecy fuels corruption, bad governance, scandals covered-up to protect elites. Ministers don't answer questions in parliament.

Sham democracy.

This is absolutely terrifying.

Reform say they would impose a Police State in the UK.

They want to abolish the police’s operational independence and take direct control.

Governments only ever take direct control of the police so they can use them to target their opponents.

Reform UK Party Ltd spent £700,000 on a 2-page spread — one page being just an image of Farage and the other a letter, meaning he spent £350,000 on pictures of himself.

The average UK house price is £272,000.

Also, the ‘full English’ is badly photoshopped on — it's tiny!
